Home.
The barking of the dogs filled the house. Along, with the petty arguments of the children, and the cooking of the mother. The father's computer keys clicking. Julie was in the living room, the soft chirps of the birds outside, the squish of the stress ball she was squeezing. It all felt very peaceful, like the sounds were coming together to make a performance for her.
The knocking on the door, and the click of the door opening. Her best friends laugh. Her best friend's phone beeps every now and then from her parents. The way she flicks her hair. making a soft swish. The way her quiet, sweet voice shares the gossip. The way her hands clap in excitement from the silly drama at school.
The plates that were full of food landed with a soft thud on the table. The clanging of the forks, spoons, and knives against the plates. The laughs and voices from everyone around the table. The scooting of the chairs, the slurping of someone drinking water from their cups.
The goodnight kisses from their parents. The swishing of the blankets. The faint purring of her cat. The whimpers from the dog. The curtains sliding. The beeps of her phone are about an hour apart.
That is home.
The Test
The voice echoed in my head for a while. I put my head on the desk, closed my eyes, and tried to get my breathing to calm down. I didn't realize the test started until I heard shwoooo sounds and clonk. Next to me was one sheet of paper with 3 question on it. Next to it was a pencil and an eraser. The pencil was a shiny, bright yellow. The eraser was a rich color of pink. The paper was as white as snow and clean.
I looked around, it wasn't blurry anymore, and I could see everything. There were desks and chairs everywhere. The desks were positioned into a semi-circle. In the middle was a desk at the bottom. Someone was standing around looking at it. He looked old and tired. Only two seats were empty, everyone didn't want to leave Earth.
Next to me, Alyssa already started. Scribbling away. I looked at my paper. Only three questions! Phew! I thought.
Question #1 What's your name? Write your full name.
So, I wrote Madison Lin (Maddie)
Question #2 What is your favorite color?
What? They're judging us because of our name and favorite color! I thought. I wrote down Gold on the paper, and looked down.
Question #3 Draw an object that represents you. Label.
That's not even a question! I rolled my eyes and drew a backpack, my first power bag. It was a medium-sized, lots of pockets, and places to put bottles or anything in. I labeled it Backpack with an arrow pointing from the word to the sketch.
I was about to raise my hand and say "I'm done!" when the paper vanished. I looked around and saw it on the desk in the middle. Magic? I thought, But that's impossible! Only our-
"Oh! You're done, too!" I turned to the side to see Alyssa, smiling from ear to ear. I noticed she had a necklace, a small bottle with a single blade of grass in it. Alyssa caught me staring at it. "It's to keep away bad magic."
I nodded. Oh no.. I thought. "You're done, nice." I said.
"Oh, yeah! Once we're done we go outside. Out the back." Alyssa looked nervous. I think I understood why. That's when we'll know if we get sent out or not.
I left immediately, I didn't want to talk to Alyssa, she was nice, but annoying. I walked down the stairs. What if my magic goes out of control. I thought. What if I hurt someone! I continued walking, I looked around to see a transparent door with the words OUTSIDE marked at the top of the door. I pushed open the door.
The grass made a crunch sound when I stepped on it. There, I saw about 10 people with a sign saying 17 around their necks.
"NAME!" someone shouted. I covered my ears. It started echoing in my head. I turned around and saw an old lady. She had brown hair that started to turn gray, a huge stack of papers in her hand, a whistle, and a pointer.
"Madison Lin." I muttered.
"AGE!" she shouted. I closed my eyes, breathed in and out, and opened my eyes.
"17."
She slammed a paper into my hand, blew into her whistle, and used the pointer to point where I was supposed to go. I looked at the paper. It said 17. Holes were hole-punched on the sides with string through the holes, making it so that you have to wear it around your neck.
I hung it around my neck and walked on over to the "17" area. Suddenly a piercing cry screeched.
Hufflepuff Life
So, you wanted my fantasy. Here it is.
Imagine you are sitting on a mustard yellow couch, with black cushions on it, looking out the window to see the rain. The rain splatters against the windows, making a beautiful sound. You are shivering and have a warm blanket around you. In front of you is a table with ink, a quill, a piece of parchment, and a potion book. Yes, you are in the world of Harry Potter, specifically the Hufflepuff common room.
You look behind your cluttered table and see the fireplace. The crackling sound it makes, so soothing. The flames dancing on the logs. You knock your book on the floor and pick it up, seeing the wood planks. You tap your fingers on it, it creates a calming sound. You listen to the rain, the fire, and the tapping of your fingers. Nothing can ruin the serenity of the room.
You grab your quill, and dip in the ink. Hearing the slosh sound makes you think of the sound pudding makes when you use your spoon to dip into it. Suddenly, you wake up. Ink is splattered on your face, the parchment is covered in ink, and your hair has turned darker. You fell asleep!
You run up the stairs and into the girls dormitory. You quickly wash your face and hair when you realize the essay for potions was due today. When you finished washing your face, you use a towel to clean it off. The towel is now black. Your yellow hair, recently dyed for house spirit, now has black tips.
You sigh as you run around trying to get new robes. You slide everything in your book bag, swing on your shoulder, and open the door. Breakfast was starting. In front of you were eggs, bacon, bread, fruits, waffles, and pancakes. You eat some eggs and a waffles. You leave early, running around the entire castle, down the dungeons, and into Professor Snape's classroom. You explain the situation, exaggerating a bit. His stone cold face says it all. He is mad.
You back away slowly and run back up to breakfast. You meet up with friends to go to Herbology. You walk across the grass and into the area. The class goes by rather quickly. Your friend keeps asking about your hair, but you say it's for house spirit as well. You and some more friends meet up for Charms. Professor Flitwick looks at your hair. You quickly go to your seat.
You look out the window. It was now raining. I watched as the rain droplets raced towards the bottom, a very childish thing to do. You stare off and meet the boy of your dreams. You fantasize about dating him. He has a nice haircut, in Ravenclaw, and has great grades. He had beautiful eyes and a smile that fills you with butterflies.
You realize that charms goes by quickly when you're not paying attention. You walk toward Professor McGonagall's class. You stroke your black cat, Maya, the entire time. Professor McGonagall either doesn't know, or knows but doesn't say anything. The thing is, you somehow know everything. Even without paying attention, you always get the highest score for your house, earning 10 points.
You are dreading potions tomorrow. That makes you distracted the entire time. You walk to the Great Hall to eat lunch. Chicken legs, corn, bread, and cheeses fill the tables. You barely touch your food. Suddenly, the boy of your dreams comes toward you. Your hands starts to sweat, your heart is pounding, your stomach is doing somersaults. He just asked you out. You were to meet him after school at the edge of the forbidden forest. There, he would show you a surprise.
You are so happy. You don't pay attention the rest of the day. Professor Snape tells you to pay attention, but you can't. Once the day was over, you would skip down to the forbidden forest's edge. The boy of your dreams would be there, flashing a perfect smile.
Well that's my fantasy :D

Chapter 1: The Test is About to Begin
"Ugh...." Judy said as she sat in her chair, the hot sun giving her a beautiful tan. "I'm supposed to be on tour today! AND POST ON INSTAGRAM!"
Judy Rivers was the most popular person in the state, Mintha. They lived in Gashy, a big country.
"Come on. Relax a little. ACTUALLY PANICCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!" Raina screamed. She was the girl who overthinks things and worried a lot, mainly because she gets a lot of hate. Raina Erla was Judy's friend, to everyone's surprise. Raina was also famous, almost as famous as Judy. She struggles with much anxiety that many don't know.
"Stop worrying!" Lindsay Viali said, who, too, was famous. She was richer out of them all, the kindest, and the prettiest."How about some water to cool the nerves and anger down?"
Everyone burst into laughter. The laughter soon evaporated into the air as the announcement called for the third time.
"ALL TEENS! IT IS YOUR TURN TO COME TO THE SPARING TEST! AGES 13-17! YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES, OR BE A SPARE AUTOMATICALLY!"
"Hey guys.." I said from behind a tree. I listened the ENTIRE time. The Famous Popular Trio were bullies and they bully me. My name is Maddie, Maddie Lin."Mr. Jetts wants you guys to return to the practice sparing test. We have to go soon."
"Get lost, FREAK!" Judy shouted at me.
It's true. I am a freak. I can make people have certain emotions and anytime and can read minds, and photographic memory. I don't know why necessarily. "Oh. Well um. Bye...."
I let a shaky breath out and pretended to walk away. I went back to the tree and opened my mind to Judy's first.
That FREAK! ugh...why can't I be like that. No DON'T be jealous...but everyone loves her and her powers...why can't dad just revive himself....
Omg. Is that the same Judy, the one who hates me, but now, jealous of me? I smiled. I focus on my breathing and sent all my jealousy to her, hitting the invisible jealousy, only I can see it, hitting her in the head. The green ejecting out of me to her.
"I'm SO jealous of Maddie." Judy said and clapped her hand onto her mouth.
"What?" Lindsay asked.
"Do you have a fever? Are you okay?" Raina said.
I glided away to the Spare Practice area.
"Any luck?" Mr. Jetts asked me. I shook my head. "Well you should get there soon. You should stay here forever."
"I'd miss you." I said, never wanting to say it out loud. Mr. Jetts assured me I'd be fine and left.
I, being 17, drove to the area. I saw the white lamborghini pull up, the windows down, the wind making dark brown hair fly in the wind.
It was Lindsay, Raina, and Judy. I glared at the car as they scrolled on their phone for a bit.
The building was grand and white. I didn't want this to happen. Astronauts have found a new "Earth" for people to be in years ago, now the Earth is facing overpopulation. People think they can send people, who shouldn't stay, there. Robbers and bad people are going there.
"I heard a mother and father went away and the poor child has no family. He's in orphan now!" I heard someone say. I breathed in and out, I wasted lots of energy doing that to Judy. I opened my mind to her.
Mom and dad are gone...Jeremy won't survive on his own...I better pass or he will be an orphan...
I felt horrible. I used the last of my energy to send her hope, the gold ejecting towards her hitting her heart. The girl smiled at the person next to her, crossed her fingers, and went in.
I walked in with shaking legs. I felt extremely dizzy and another headache starting. I went where the big sign said 17 YEAR OLDS HERE! and sat down on one of the seats. I wanted to faint, my vision blurring.
Not now I thought. I opened my eyes to see the same girl from before.
"Hi. I'm Alyssa. Who are you?" she asked.
"Oh umm. It's uhh Maddie." I said quietly.
"Looks like we are together for the test! Well sitting next to each other." Alyssa said, smiling from ear to ear.
I wanted to open my mind to her, see if she truly wanted to be my friend. It would be impossible though, I might collapse. No one wanted to be my friend, only wanted to because they wanted to help me not be lonely or just joking.
30 Minutes Later......
"Okay. That concludes it. The spares are now already there." Boomed the voice of a 6 foot tall man with huge muscles.
Chapter 2: The Glass-like Bow
Layla stared, confused at what she just witnessed. She was about to scream when the words reappeared. This time, Layla read as fast as she could:
YOU RUINED-
It got cut off.
She panicked. She closed the journal shut and threw it across her room.
"Layla? What is this?" Her stepfather asked as he came in and stumbled upon the journal. "You know writing is useless. Cleaning, dancing, and cooking are what men like." He picked it up and was about to flip the pages when Layla sprinted to grab it.
"It's nothing Father." she hid beneath her dark hair and put the journal on her bed. "Anyways, I must be off. I have to get the bouquet for Lady Lauren. She wants them for her kitchen." she said.
Her stepfather left, satisfied with Layla's answer. Her stepfather wanted the girls to marry rich, they could own property and have beautiful children. Layla never like that, she wanted to go out and explore.
Layla put away the journal, securly, and drifted to the garden. The garden had wonderful marble statues everywhere, and a sea of colors. Arrays of flowers were laid out, in color order.
She picked up the teal blue flowers, around 10, and made her way to the white flowers. She picked the white flowers and sprinkled them in the bouquet.
After 2 minutes, Layla gave up. She sat down, hopelessly, on the bench. Layla sighed and walked off to Lady Lauren's house. She had a lavender house, quite odd in the area they lived in.
Layla knocked on door and patiently waited. The flowers were in the basket, tied together. Lady Lauren opened the door with her dazzling smile.
"How lovely Layla! Here is the necklace I owe you." Lady Lauren said and presented the beautiful necklace which sparkled in the sunlight.
"No, it's fine! Really!" Layla said, feeling bad getting the necklace for just a bouquet she spent 2 minutes on.
"Well, you need something. Hold on! Let me get something really quick." Lady Lauren shut the door and ran inside. Layla smiled. Lady Lauren always found something, always made everyone happy. "Here."
Lady Lauren was panting. She opened her palm to reveal a beautiful bow. Layla gasped. It was clear with pearls all around it. It gave the glass-like effect when she held it up to the light.
"It's sooooo pretty!" Layla told her. Lady Lauren smiled and put it in her hair. Lady Lauren grabbed the bouquet and quickly shut the door before Layla gave it back.
Layla skipped home, something so childish, but fun. When she reached her house her shoulders drooped down and her smile was wiped from her face.
"I wish I can just LEAVE THIS PLACE!" Layla shouted, very unlike her, and kicked the ground her new heels. The heels looked like a disaster from all the skipping. "These dumb heels!"
WOOF WOOF!
A dog? Layla thought. Mother and Father would never accept such a request.
In reality, Layla always wanted a dog. She and Kayla begged their mother and father to get one, but her father was deathly allergic to one.
A fluffy white dog emerged from the bushess, covered in leaves.
"Darling! No! Sit! Stay!" Kayla, Ruby, and Charlotte's voices all called.
Layla knelt down and grabbed the dog, put in the basket, and pet it. It was frightened from all the yelling her sisters caused.
"Layla?" Kayla said as she saw us. She looked frightened, almost as if she was embarrassed she cared for such a creature.
"It's fine. What's her name?" Layla said excitedly.
"Oh. It's Darling." Kayla said cautiously. It was clear she was embarrassed. Ruby ran in and broke the trance Kayla was in.
"DARLING!" Ruby shrieked in her high-pitched voice. Layla beamed at Darling. Who knew such an animal can look so sweet and cute and small.
Chapter 1: The Deep Maroon Red Journal
Layla laughed as she swung from the grand tree. Her pale blue blue eyes shining in the sunlight. In the air, she looked like she was flying, gracefully flying. When she landed she met her sister's eyes. The dark, almond, brown eyes she was used to seeing, and the freckles sprinkled on her face.
"Mother told you not to jump anymore" Kayla said, crossing her arms and smirking, almost like she knew Layla was in trouble. Layla never was in trouble, she was the kindest girl in the area, always helping others and caring for animals. This was the one thing she would ever get in trouble for. "Mother!" she called.
"Kayla! Why did you do that?" Layla shouted at her. Her mother, Raina, walked in, her sapphire eyes and freckles looking gorgeous with her silky black hair.
"What is it Kayla?" she asked at her sister. "Is everything okay?"
"No Mother. It unfortunately isn't. Layla here jumped off the tree again." she said, trying to sound proper. Their parents were very rich, very rich indeed. They wore dresses everyday and drank tea and ate cookies when guests came over.
Layla's wispy pink dress was as clean as can be, her hair in the same bun, her makeup the exact same. It looked as if she never jumped off the tree.
"Layla. Is this true?" Raina asked suspiciously. Her eyebrows raised.
"No Mother. It isn't true." Layla said delicately.
Raina scoffed. She was clearly mad at Kayla, not Layla. She left, her hair swishing from side to side. Kayla yelled at her sister and stormed off in fury.
Layla laughed. She loved how she could get away with anything really. She walked into the mansion. She walked into the giant mess inside too. Her mother and sister were yelling at each other, her stepfather was ordering servants to clean faster, the servants were sweating and hurrying around the house, and Charlotte was chasing Ruby. Charlotte was the 3rd child, Ruby was the 4th child of the Evaline's.
Layla was the 2nd child, Kayla was the oldest out of the bunch. It was almost always chaos in the house.
Gliding past everyone, she went up the stairs, her heels clicking the stairs at a steady rhythm. Her room was massive. She had a huge canopy bed, an entire table for makeup with a mirror, 4 closets, and a work space. The first closet was for shoes, the second closet was for accessories, the third closet was for dresses, part of the fourth closet was more dresses, and the other part of the fourth closet was tights and sweaters.
She opened a drawer. Inside was an old journal full of stories, a deep maroon red journal. she grabbed her pen and flipped through the pages. Her deceased father had written stories he never published, he instead started a business. Each day I read a page, the journal having thousands of pages filled out. With my pen I made notes and annotated the stories on the side.
Today was page 11 chapter 1 of a book he called Wizo the Wizz of the Wizarding Wizzing. The title was odd, but the story, so far, was spectacular. She started reading the page:
"Wizo! You dumb-dumb! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT! YOU RUINED EVERY SINGLE THING OF THIS BELOVED-
It got cut off.
"What!?!" she said, puzzled. A moment before the words were there, but as she read it evaporated or sunk into the journal.
