Everyone likes to be cool and awesome and kick-ass and random shit like that, but mind you I'm not any of those things. I'm just a normal human who likes to read books and listening to music, but that doesn't mean that I don't have any social life or anything. Well, that's what I think. I mean being a valedictorian of high school is cool, right? But unfortunately the less IQ people of my school think that being a homecoming queen or prom queen is the coolest thing. I don't blame them. It's just that, I can't be like them. This is me. I am-
"Charlie Charlie Charlie Charlie Charlie!" Shrieked my aunt's kids.
"Sharlie," the younger of the two said.
"Yes, pumpkins?" I replied.
"Char-" the elder one began, but was interrupted by his little brother.
"Sharlie, why do you have such a chmall nosy?" He asked.
Yeah, I have a tiny nose. Like really teeny-meeny, but it's visible. Thank God. Now I have to think of a way to answer these kids.
"Um," I began, staring at the ceiling as if asking to give me an answer. "Well, because I don't lie."
"Oooh!" The kids said, together in unison. "Sharlie, Pinocchio had a long nosy becauche he lied?"
I smiled. "Yes, sweetie, and if you both kids ever lie to your mom or me or anyone, your nosy-posy will become more longer than Pinocchio's ever was."
They gasped and then giggled and ran back to the living area, all the while shouting, "lie bad. Lie bad!"
Kids can just be so adorable sometimes. Ivan and Chrono are two sweet kids. Ivan - the elder one - is seven years old and Chrono is 4 years. Oh right, I was about to call my best friend.
I held my new, shiny mobile in my hand and dialled his number. The aforementioned best friend is Jason. He's my best guy. Not a boyfriend or anything like that. Honestly, the boyfriend thing is so not my thing. Especially after.. Never mind.
Jase and I are best friends since childhood, and he's also my schoolmate. We both are part of our trio, and the third person is Jessica. I'll get to her later. But I'm more close to Jase than I'm with Jess, because he understands me in a way no one else can. If I were a guy, Jase would've been my best man in my wedding or if he were a girl, he'd have been my Maid of Honor. That's the kind of thing we have.
It was still ringing on the other end and no one answered. Finally, after ages I heard Jase's lazy voice.
"Hm.. Charlotte?"
"What took you so long to answer my damn call?"
He yawned. And yawned. And yawned.
I rolled my eyes and heard him snickering on the other end. "Fine, got it. You were sleeping. Now stop yawning into my ears!"
"Yes Charlotte, I was in deep sleep and your call woke me up," he accused.
"Charlie," I said, "for the last time, why can you not call me Charlie?"
"Because your name is Charlotte, Charlotte."
"Jase, you know why I don't like being called by my full name," I said, anger evident in my voice. "Please stop calling me Charlotte."
"Your Dad named you Charlotte," he said. "So what? Just because he did what he did doesn't mean that you stop people from using your first name." I didn't say anything, so he added, "you know, you loved your na-"
"Yes I did!" I interjected. "But many things have changed from then."
"Tell me anything, but I won't stop calling you Charlotte. Besides, I'm used to it."
I sighed. There are many things in the world that can change but Jason isn't one of them, the same goes with Jess too. "Alright," I said.
"So, what have you been doing lately?" He questioned. "How's the break goin' on?"
"It's good, apart from my wish.."
"Ah, that again," Jase sighed.
"Jase, you don't under-"
"You mean," he said, cutting me off and mimicked in an imitation of my voice, "that you didn't get your oh-my-wish-came-true moment"
I rolled my eyes. "Obviously,"
"You got into that whatever university in New York, and you're still not satisfied. Oh God, I wonder if I'll ever in this entire universe understand you."
"Oh, you do understand me Jase, hon, but you just won't accept it," I retorted.
He laughed sarcastically and said, "yeah, yeah, I do understand you Charlo-"
"Charlie," I interrupted.
"Charlotte, I just don't get the fact that why you think you didn't get your wish or whatever. What exactly is your wish?"
"It's uh, I," I hesitated, as I really didn't know what to say. I mean, it's not like I haven't figured it out yet. I had, long ago, I just didn't know if Jase would understand..
"Well?" He prodded.
I took a deep breath and said, "look, Jase, the thing is- Oh God, how am I going to tell you this?" I paced back and forth in my vast balcony.
"Go on," he encouraged. "I'm all ears."
"It's- I want an Augustian boyfriend," I blurted out.
"What?" He said, with a puzzled tone.
"The Fault in Our Stars' Augustus," I explained. "Augustus Waters. You've never read the book, so you won't be knowing."
"And why exactly do you want an Augustian boyfriend?" He asked, and before I could've answered him, he continued, "I thought that having boyfriends isn't your thing after what happened with Ken bastard?"
"Augustus is different. He would never do anything that asshole did," I defended.
"And how's that so?" Jase asked, and I was pretty sure from his tone that, he was annoyed.
"Jason, Augustus is the most ideal guy anyone would ever wanna date. I mean..." I was at a loss for words. "I mean, he's loyal, smart, hot, handsome and the point that I like the most about him is that, he never judges anyone on their looks."
"He's fictional though," he reminded.
"Yeah, that's why I said a guy who is like him,"
"I really don't get it, I mea-"
"JASE!" Shouted his sister's voice and she seemed really angry from the sound of it.
"Uh-oh, trouble, trouble," I said. "What did you do now? Ring me up later and tell, okay?"
"I really gotta go," he murmured, almost unintelligibly.
"I kinda figured it ou-" but Jason hung up by then.
I went back to the living area and grabbed my iPad. I thought about going and greeting My Old Man, but that can wait, I thought and fired up Messenger. There were two messages waiting for me. The first one was from my cousin, informing me that my Mom's brother - my uncle - who lived in England would be visiting us in the coming week. I groaned, not because I don't want Uncle to come, but because his kids are a pain in the ass. They are not little kids. One is just an year younger to me and the other is in sixth grade. Both of them are guys. (That's the problem. Not that I don't like guys, I just have a distaste towards them.)
The other message was from some guy named Dave. I checked his profile and found that he was a junior from high school with whom I wasn't acquainted. But I decided to reply, as it would've been rude not to.
Me: Hey.
He replied after a minute
Dave: Hey! What's up?
It was all weird for me, I mean I didn't know the guy! So it obviously took me some time to actually reply. That was a simple question to answer, but given the fact that Dave didn't as much as glance at me in high school and now he is all like 'what's up?' as if we have been best friends since ages. It's not a big deal to many people, but like I said, I'm not many people. I wrote back anyway.
Me: Just listening to songs. What about you?
Dave: Nothing much.
Okay, I really didn't know what to text back then, so I asked an obvious and not to forget, a lame question.
Me: You are in senior year of high school, aren't you?
Dave: Yep, and you are gonna go to college after summer break, right?
Me: Hm, yeah.
He didn't reply for a long time then, so I decided to go near Gran. As I started to get up, there was a ping from my iPad, and when I checked the message which was from Dave, my eyes widened.
Dave: A beautiful flower for a beautiful girl.
He sent two four clover leaf emojis with that text.
