Know what you’re turning into

Remember words like

Show your work on the overhead

And please wipe your transparency clean

Watch where you’re walking

Look back

With your feet planted

Let your temples feel

The sun and moon

Then move

Eyes fixed

Up the road a’piece

It’s Today

Whether or not it’s Tomorrow’s

Date

It’s sunny and it’s Spring and it’s

Tuesday, a school day,

Only now I’m teaching and Today’s not going to end

The way that last year’s Tuesday did.

.

Where there’s Will, there is a way.

Where there’s Goodness, there is strength.

Where there’s Courage

When there’s Bravery

There is Hope, and reward.

.

I was born on a Tuesday –

Days like today are almost always Good,

So I won’t let one spoil my

Lot, not Tuesdays

Nor Tomorrow

I take keepsakes

Retouch and arrange tarnished

Precious memorabilia

A little silver bell

Turned brown well before I learned

A sterling finish doesn’t stay if it sits

Unused

A Goodacre Dollar

‘Presentation’ piece

Sakakawea and Jean Baptiste

Reverse, obverse dated

Wash-worn faces faded like varnished brass

Engraved in gold

A fleuron shining on

A broach

Saved for teatime all June’s life

A thimble which fits my pinky finger

Collected tokens tucked in the sky

Blue-velvet drawstring bag

Now steeping in the bright

Black-spotted kettle

I’ll never use to pour or brew

On account of how the metal smells

Still of Marlboro Reds

Even filled to the brim with white

Sage potpourri ~

LORD,

Repentance sounds like sipping wind

through my bottom teeth

Hydroplaning ~ ~ ~

Admittance: a second suspended

when I roll my eyes at the heavens

Sighing, “Fine,” or

if I find Your humility, “In YOUR time.”

~ ~ ~ Then

Sanctified in the Name who calls mine

quelling pride to quench my thirst

“Eyes on the Road up ahead.”

Turn into the spin

Remembrance crowns God’s sentence

and pays me to mind my service in it

Your WORD, I Will.

Is pastel pink

The color of my toes

When they’re pruny

I steal away to sunsets where

There’s wax on the brink of burning

Like crayon-melt across the water

I find the sound of waves

Sublime

.

Muted in my mind

Might look so long

I forget to drink

Dry my feet

On the sand

Passing new waves

As they crash around me

Soft-hued steps

Along the shores

Grains stuck down the nooks

Of my cranial stores

My soles were made

For memory lanes ~
