BRIDGET I
My name is Bridget Ashwinder, and I am in a lot of trouble. Let me tell you about it. I grew up in and out of different homes, but I started at 221b Baker Street with a young couple who were very strange. Then they had a child of their own and kicked me out. It went like this on and on, in and out of homes. Once, I was even in an abandoned place with 20 other children, until the men found us. But, of course, the most weird one is a week before my 15th birthday.
I was in what was my last “home,” and it was the middle of the night. I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned. I finally fell asleep, but then I felt heat all around me. There was a fire. I was covered in fire. I was surrounded. I looked down at my hands and they weren’t burned, I ran out naked. I grabbed clothes off a clothesline and threw them on. A pair of pants and a shirt, mens clothes. I saw a pair of riding boots, pulled them on and ran. It was dead of night and saw a stable. I was comfortable with animals. I saw my favorite one, a black stallion named Blackjack.
He is somewhat asleep. I walked up to his stall and scratch his head. He starts to whine, but I said a quiet “No!” and he was quiet. I slowly opened the door of his stall and lead him out. Without any proper riding equipment, I hopped on his back, and we rode into the distance. We rode to the forest, where no one could find us. We stayed there for a couple of days, until men finally found us. Blackjack bolted and left me to fend for myself. The brought me with them and put me in jail. At the end of my trial, they concluded to have me go to America instead of a poor woman. So I stayed in jail until my 15th birthday. That’s when the boat left for America. (By the way, I lived in England.) On the day of it leaving they had men flank me on both sides, as we walked to the ship.
I remember met Simon on this boat. We went to New York and met gods. We built a camp. We found demigods. We helped them survived. Simon was supposed to go back to Greece to tell Chiron and lead them here. I don’t think he ever did. The day before he was supposed to leave, we went to a secluded part of the beach. He encased us in water but left an air bubble for us. We had floated down to the bottom to the bottom of the ocean. The last thing I remember is Simon getting hit in the head and I blacking out right afterwards. One day I woke up. I was in a very comfortable bed. I saw a door with a handle. I tested the handle to see if it was open. It was. I was in a long hallway. I looked left, then right. I started to walk right down the hall. I came to a ladder. I climbed up. I came into a normal room. A bed on the left, a table with a icebox on the left. There also was a table with a set of clothes and two chairs. I went to the clothes and saw them. There was a note ` said:
Please put these on.. I don’t know what you remember. Please put these on, and eat the food in the refrigerator.
-Simon Moffat
I looked at the clothes, then back at the note. The clothes were like the ones I was wearing, but more my size. I wondered what a refrigerator was. I saw a white object that looked like a ice box. I saw a bucket of water, and decided to clean up. I washed, then put on the clean clothes. A tunic shirt, a pair of black pants, and a pair of black boots. No more dresses or corsets. Ah! Comfortable clothes for once. There was an undershirt that I didn’t see, and so I put it on. I finally walked to the refrigerator thing, and realized I was actually hungry. I opened it up, and I was welcomed by a wave of coldness. There was a cake, roast beef, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. There was also a jug of water on the table. I sat down and started to eat. The door opened, and my head turned around. It was a boy. Could it be Simon Moffat? The mystery person came and sat across from me.
“It’s me, Bridget. It’s me, Simon,” he said.
“Simon is that really you? You don’t look like Simon,” I replied.
“I am 17, and I am from Greece. From a haven for demigods.”
“I know what a demigod is, but I still don’t believe that you are Simon” I asked hastily. I really wondered who this person was, and why he rescued me. Why? Why? WHY? I want answers now. Not later. But now.
Without thinking, I blurted out;
“Are you really Simon, if so, why are you here? Why did you rescue me? Why? Why? WHY?” And with that last “why” I stood up and flipped the table over. Simon looked absolutely stunned. I looked back at him, and sprinted out of the room. Simon tried to call, but I ignored. I was in once again in a long hallway, but this time it was different color than white. I sprinted to the left, feeling that this way was the way to go. This time I came to a set of stairs. I sprinted up. Yet another hallway, but with more light, I have to be near the top I thought to myself. I heard Simon yell, yet still I ignored. I rushed to the next level and stopped. There was no wood, I should have realized the colors. No ship had this many levels or rooms or colors in my time. The 1800’s. I should have noticed the clothes. Simon was wearing blue pants and a shirt. No tunic. No riding boots. No pants.
Where the hell am I?
Simon came right behind me, and I was in a loss for words. We started a camp together, and what has happened now is unexplainable. I tried to ask him where we are, but no words came out. I stood there with my mouth gaped open. There was no one else on this strange ship as far as I could see. The boat looked white, but not white wood. Shiny white stuff. Simon understood that I was trying to figure out what this stuff is.
“It’s a metal boat, common for this time now,” I heard him say it. I didn’t understand what happened to us. The last thing I remember was Simon and I on the bottom of the ocean and him getting hit in the head. That was our first time together outside of leading camp. We had quite a few demigods. Some of the gods shared cabins because we did not have enough supplies, but Zeus, Poseidon, and Hera had their own. I was in the Hephaestus’ cabin. We had that cabin to ourselves because, a) I built it, and b) we made all the weapons in camp. I think Simon knew what I was thinking and lead me back down to my room. I looked at it better and saw that it had a large bed, with a door connecting to a washing room, and then another door connecting to another bedroom. It was possibly Simon’s. I didn’t dare ask any questions. I sat down on the bed, slid off my shoes and laid down. I laid there for some time. Simon mouth flowed. I payed attention to snippets of it. Something about us being frozen for about 200 years. Apparently someone did it, but he doesn’t know who. And from being frozen so long, our brains adapted and grew. We unlocked more potential from our brains. Telekinesis, telepathy, being able to change how we look. All of them from that freeze.
I thought if Simon has this power, maybe I do too. I thought about the telekinesis, and I tried moving the food from the table to me. The cake floated over the ground over to the bed. Simon wasn’t paying attention. When he turned around, he saw me eating the cake.
“How did you get out of bed so silently? I didn’t even hear you!” he questioned. I shrugged and lifted the water jug and poured a glass of water, then drifted it to him. He looked to me, then to the water, and was like that for about five minutes. Then I finally let the jug out of my glass, and right before it fell, I lifted it, and everything else in the room including Simon. He screamed like a little girl. Simon of all people! Screaming like a little girl! I laughed as I set the stuff down. Simon.
A woman walked in the room, and I was startled, but then I slowly recognized her.
“Ella? Is that you? What happened? How are you older than me?” hastily asked question after question. She gave me rushed answers, prepared almost, as if she knew I was going to ask these questions. I almost asked about Felix and Theo, but I didn’t. Felix was her adorable little brother, along with her in the Athena cabin. It was filled with books then. I wondered what it looks like now. Theo was her boyfriend. Were they both swept up, while they were looking for us?
Ella almost knew what I trying to ask and said, “Felix and Theo were both swept up with the rest of group,” she said with a choke in her voice. “The group was made up of Jack, Liam, Ezra, Felix, Theo, Kali, Ivy, Isis, Zoe, and me. So far, Liam, Ezra, Kali, Ivy, and Zoe haven’t woken. And Theo. Felix is awake, he been thrashing around and his vitals are off the charts, but he is not responsive. Theo. Theo is unresponsive and not moving.” Ella broke into tears and I pulled her to the bed with me and Simon, where we hugged each her.
“If you don’t mind. Can we see Jack and Isis? And Felix if that is okay?” I questioned. Ella started crying again and stood up. With a motion, she waved us towards the door. Ella walked down the hall, looking left and right for something. Finally we stopped at a door covered in colors. It has to be Isis’s. She knocked on it. When the door open strange loud music was blaring from the room. The person who opened the door had rainbow colored hair, a bright green shirt, a blue short skirt, black ankle shoes with strings, and a necklace with a rainbow on it. It was Isis! Her eyes widened and she squealed.
“Bridget! You’re awake!” She screeched and ran to hug me. The room was huge, with another door opening to what appears to be a stable. Isis motioned us to come in. I looked back at Ella, and her face was still red, but she stopped crying. We entered the room, and colors were screaming at me. On one wall there was a rainbow made out of neon colors, another with other colors, the ceiling was bright pink, and the rest was splatters of colors. We walked through the large room into the stables. There were numerous large horses. But these had wings. Large wings, and each stall opened in the back to a large balcony over the stern of the ship. In one of the stalls I saw a black horse. It was Blackjack! I ran up to his stall, opened it, and threw my arms around him.
“Blackjack! You are still alive! Why you are a naughty boy. I had no idea you were a Pegasus,” I laughed. Simon, Isis, and Ella all looked from Blackjack to me, and it went on for a couple times. Finally someone broke the silence, asking about us.
“How do you know each other? He came to camp after you guys left to your spot. When I woke on the ship, the Pegasus was connected to my new room. My favorite one is Dandelion. The white one with multi-colored hair,” Isis said with a smile. I laughed, but halfheartedly. I knew something was not being said. Something wasn’t right. This whole setup was, well, peculiar. While everybody was distracted, I slipped out of the room, and silently ran down the hall to the deck. There was a fire pit in the lounge, yet it was not lit. I tried summoning fire to light the fire, but it wouldn’t come. I tried and tried for hours, never getting more than a spark. After at least 3 hours, I gave up. I sat there and cried. And when I said cried, I cried my eyes out. I felt something was off, and now I found it. I was off. I’m not that girl on fire. Just another ordinary kid of Hephaestus. Just someone who makes weapons. Someone who fights, then dies. I’m not special anymore. I looked at the time, and the day. And the year. The year is 2020. 2020? More than 200 years had passed!
It was the dead of night, everybody must be asleep. But after I was asleep for 200 years, the last thing I wanted to do was sleep.
I walked out to the deck and looked up. I scanned the balconies for the one that connected to the stables. I scanned over and over until I found it. I was the largest one, connecting to brown stalls. I found a rope, tossed up up on the balcony, and made sure it could hold my weight. Once I was sure It was strong, I climbed up to rope, and hopped over the balcony. I had to search for Blackjack’s stall. It took almost 10 minutes. Eventually I found it. Like in London, I slowly and quietly opened the door. He started to whine, but I told him to be quiet. I led him out, hopped on him, and we flew into the sunrise.
SIMON II
We were in the stables. We were laughing about the Pegasus’s hair colors and names. Bridget looked okay, but her eyes. Her eyes. Her eyes say everything. Her emotion. That is what I love most about her. Her eyes tell everything about her.
She slipped out of the room. Bridget probably thought no one saw her, but yet I did. I told them I had leave. Ella and Isis waved goodbye. I smiled and left. By them time I got out of her room, Bridget was gone. I heard footsteps from the left hall. I ran and followed them. They twisted and turned threw many halls. Finally they stopped in front of a green room. The room has a fireplace, a love seat, and a coffee table in it. There was nobody in there, but sparks of fire was still appearing out of nowhere. Going on for what seemed like forever. I finally left as I started to hear crying. Footsteps followed the crying. As I walked to my room, I thought about how Bridget reacted to the news when she woke up. She laid there after she ran, but then she seemed fine. Especially after she found out about the powers. As I fell asleep, my thoughts were lost with vivid memories of my childhood.
My dream started on a hill. The same hill Chiron came to see me off. I went with my only friend, Oliver. We were some of the worst troublemakers at camp. Me, Oliver and his sister Olivia. We the closest friends you were had ever known. We met on the streets. His sister, Olivia died protecting camp. The week after that, I had to visit the Oracle. It was a old mummy wrapped in old bandages. I had to be the one. I wasn’t. I lied saying that it was me. I pretended when visited the oracle that I was somebody else. Oliver to be exact. Nobody knows this but me. They had to go to America, with one other person. The Oracle was usually never that specific, but this time it was. I asked Oliver, and he said yes. I wanted to have him on this quest that was supposed to be his. I just think he needed to get his sister off his mind. As we walked through the path to exit the woods, a roar came from in front of us. A very large Minotaur came charging at us, with several manticores and hell-hounds. I ran up to attack and we were getting swarmed.
“Go ahead. Leave me!” he yelled, over the monsters.
“No! I can’t” I screamed back. I was winded, and I realized we wouldn’t last longer.
“Seriously! Go ahead! This is why I wanted to go on this quest. So I could die bravely and go to my sister. Leave me!” I sprinted away. With my final step out of the forest, I heard a blood curling scream. At once all the monsters disappeared, and I dashed back to Oliver. He was barely alive. There was a large hole in his stomach. I tried to try to put pressure but he batted me away.
“Let me die. My sister needs me. You understand don’t you?” He took a few shallow breaths. “I love you Simon… Like a broth-” He collapsed and his eyes went like glass.
“Ollie! No. Ollie. Ollie. Ollie. Wake up wake up WAKE UP! Ollie. Ollie,” I screamed for ages. I cried with him in my arms. I couldn’t face camp, so I buried him by our favorite tree in the woods. I sat there and cried for days. One day I knew I had to go. So I did.
But back to the dream. I was on the hill, but with Bridget. We were laying there. I could feel her breathing. She felt so real, but not real at the same time. As I started to feel happy, the dream rippled. Shifting and changing. The hill disappeared, and it was replaced with a large figure. A deep voice boomed out.
“You there! Come here,” the figure called to another thing. “Go find the daughter of Hephaestus.” The dream shifted again. Now there was a person holding a very red hair person. She was sleeping. It was Bridget. I tried to walk to her, but it was no use. I was stuck! I couldn’t move, it was like I was watching a horror movie without being able to close my eyes. Or move. I didn’t know which one was worse.
“This demi-god is perfect! Azazeal! Set! Come here. Azazeal, I want you to find that Poseidon child. Smitty Morgan, I think his name is. And Set, I want you to haul this little girl to the dungeons,” he declared. Smitty Morgan? There is no child of Poseidon named Smitty Morgan. What if? No, I dismissed that thought out of my head. It kept coming back, until I finally realized that they wanted me. Me, Simon Moffat, Son of Poseidon. Bridget screamed, fought, and bit. I kept thinking that whole time, Where is her fire? Where is it? Then it all came together. Those footsteps. The invisible thing that made the fire sparks. It was Bridget. She lost her fire. The thing that made her, well, her. Now she didn’t have it anymore. It suddenly went dark. I abruptly woke up. The dream started to slip away, I started to grab at the air, as if that would help me get it back.
I leaped out of bed and threw on some clothes. I flew out the door on the way to rouse Jack, Ella, and Isis. I must keep going I thought. I found myself in front of Felix’s door. I thought “I must be here for a reason.” I creaked open the door, and creeped inside. Felix’s eyes were fluttering. He slowly propped himself up on his elbows and looked around, not noticing me. I slowly backed out of the room, and bolted to Ella. I was panting when I got there.
“Felix… is… awake,” was all I could get out. Ella’s eyes were wide open, and she sprinted out of the room. I followed her, and by the time I got to Felix’s room, Ella was hugging him, and crying at the same time. Jack came up behind me and did a loud WHOOP! We laughed. Felix still looked shaken.
“Wh-Where am I?” he said in a shaky voice. “Wh-Who are y-you? The only thing I r-remember is that I am Felix Hart, and Ella is my protective, big sister. Camp Half-Blood. Athena Cabin, Cabin 6. Full of books. Are there any books here?” He suddenly asked, looking around once more.
Jack goes to him and asks, “Do you remember being swept up by a wave?” Felix looks confused.
He shakes his head, “No, no. The last thing I remember is a great big pair of yellow eyes. Then everything went black. And now I woke up here.” That really confuses me. Bridget and I were swept off our feet by water and attacked by rocks underwater, Felix remembers great, big yellow eyes, and now I could only wonder what they others saw. I turned to ask Jack, but he knew what I was going to say.
“I saw a large cloud of sand before I blacked out, and I woke up here,” Jack answered. I thought about it, a wave, a pair of yellow eyes, and a cloud of sand. I think I am going to ask Isis what she saw before she blacked out. I turned to walk out, but Ella used her telekinesis to catch me by arm and made me turn around.
She asked, “Aren’t you going to celebrate? It’s not too often that someone wakes up. Especially we thought little Felix was going to be last.” I shrugged. I needed to talk to someone about my dream, and I want to talk to Bridget.
“I’ll be right back. I’m going to get Bridget,” I say to them as I walk out of the door. None of them look to complain. I’m fine with that. I wonder if Chiron ever found out that Ollie was dead. I should tell him. Ollie would be helpful here. As I walked down to Bridget’s room, I noticed it was eerily silent. I dismissed that thought because everybody was at Felix’s room. I finally reached Bridget’s room that was at the end of the hall. I knocked, no answer. I knocked again, with no answer. I finally opened the door. The room was empty. I ran out, slamming the door behind me. I ran to the stables. Blackjack was gone! I ran out of his stall to the balcony. There was a rope hanging from the bars. My dream. It must be real!
I jumped over the railing onto the deck. My ankle rolled under my weight, but I pushed through it. I sprinted to Felix’s room, but everybody was gone. I listened for a bit, and headed to the dining hall. I ran to them and burst through the doors. Ella saw me, exasperated, with no Bridget and cried.
I felt tears on the verge of falling. “She’s gone.” That is all I said, and a bolted from the room to the stables, the same way Bridget had. I walked to my favorite Pegasus, Tiki. I scratched her long face, and silently opened the door. I stood there for at least 3 minutes. I sighed. I led her out, and tacked her up silently. I forced her to the balcony. I climbed up her and we flew away to the direction I saw Bridget go in my dream.
THEO III
I was stuck in an immovable horror movie. I saw people stay and go. Ella and Felix. Ella. Oh why am I stuck? I hate seeing Ella sitting there crying. I want to wake up and kiss her. I stuck in darkness. I can hear, breathe, and watch. An never ending movie. I try to move my hand once and awhile, but all that happens is that I become nauseous. So I lay there. Everyday. Food enters the food tube three times a day. I black out for portions of time. I can’t tell what day it is anymore. Some days all I hear is blood curling screams. But those days, my eyes are sealed shut. All I saw were flashes of images. Most were this great big person, maybe Hades or a Titan, yelling orders and a girl with bright red hair. Could that girl be Bridget? I have no idea.
On one of the days I wasn’t in those nightmares, Ella came with a young boy. I tried to move my eyes but I couldn't. I heard a voice. Hi Theo. It’s me, Felix. I can talk to people like this. Are you awake? My sister wants you to be. I thought. Yes. I am awake, but I can’t move at all. All I can do is breathe, watch and hear. So I can hear anything anyone says. Felix looked awestruck. He turned to his sister.
“Theo can hear us. Anything we’ve said.” Some days I have these horrible nightmares. Almost like visions. I don’t say anything about Bridget though. I really don't want anyone to find out about me. I black out. The visions. There here again. I feel someone else in my mind. It’s Theo...And Ella! I feel my body move. I convulse. The big figure is coming towards me. I start to slip away. I screeched.
“Ella! Felix! Ella! Help! Help! Help meee…..” Then I blacked out.
ELLA IV
The day after Felix wakes up, I take Felix to Theo. I see Felix move his mouth but no sound comes out. He stands there for a minute, then turn to me. He stands there and has this awestruck look in his face.
“He’s..He’s awake! He can’t move. But he can breathe and hear and watch!” He stops for a minute. Felix seems to be in deep concentration. Then his face looks sad. “And some days he has these visions. All he could hear is bloodcurdling screams. Those are the days he can’t hear or see us.” I feel depressed. Oh if he is awake, why can’t he move? Oh why? Oh oh why?
“I could take you into his mind,” Felix says.
“Into his mind? How can you possibly do that?” I question. I thought about Bridget’s powers. What does Simon have? Isis has the color thing. I mean she can turn anything any color.
“My mind work in strange ways. I don’t know how, but once I woke up, I could hear voices without people saying things. I just went with it,” he confessed. I honestly thought if I should say my power. I can literally think about something and it appears, and I can change into any animal. So I could fly of this ship if I wanted to. But I really, really wanted to wake Theo up.
I turn to Felix and requested, “Okay, take me into Theo’s mind.” I felt my eyesight go dark and I woke up in a dark place. A large figure was standing in the middle of the room. There was a bright red hair girl chained to the side, and a boy that is knocked out hanging in between two very large titans. A thought trained over me, that’s Simon, and Bridget! A voice started to cry. Ella! Felix! Ella! Help! Help! Help meee… The voice trailed away. We suddenly were back to our world.
“W-w-What happened?” I stammered out. That scene creeped me out. We were interrupted. Theo started to convulse. White foam started to creep out of his mouth.
“I can’t feel his mind! I’m losing him!” Felix screamed. I started to cry.
“Stay with us Theo. Theo! Theo!” I cried. There was a loud BEEP BEEP. I saw that there was a screen and there was lines. The one that was flat said Heartbeat. I cried. Theo was gone. Felix disappeared. The next moment he reappeared with Jack and Isis. Jack saw me crying, and Theo’s limp body. He ran to Theo and started to cry.
“No no non non non non non. Reste avec moi mon pote! Theo! NON! You cannot be dead!” Jack howled at Theo’s body. They were brothers. French twin brothers. Jack stared at his body and collapsed. Isis had to pull him away. I sat by his side for I don’t know how long. Finally one day, Felix came and led me to my room. I sat on the bed for ages. I didn’t eat or sleep. I finally realized I had to face the world. I dragged myself out of the bed. I slowly clambered to the shower. And stood there. Until I pulled myself out. I slowly walked to my closet and looked what was in there. I pulled on a shirt and a pair of pants, along with a pair of socks.
I shuffled down the hall to the mess hall. Everybody was there, eating breakfast. I slowly walked in. Nobody noticed me. I trudged to the buffet. There was eggs, sausage, bacon, fruits, fresh to make omelets, pancakes and waffles. I grabbed at least one of everything. I walked to the empty space at the table and plopped down. I was sitting there, chewing a bite of eggs, when something strange happened.
A large flash of light appeared, but nobody else seemed to noticed this. A large bird appeared and beckoned me forward. I followed. It led me to the deck. It motioned to a hatch. I looked at the hatch and the bird beckoned me to open it. I kneeled before it and pulled it opened. There was a ladder and a flashlight. I grabbed the flashlight and started to climb down the ladder. The bird of light had disappeared. When I finally had reached the bottom, I fumbled for a light switch. Then when I couldn’t find one, I searched for a chain, then a candle. I stumbled into a table, and there was a candle with a box of matches. I took the match and lit the candle. I could see the room much better. I looked, and it was a huge library. I started to scurry around. In one area, there was a large fluffy rug, a L shaped couch, with many pillows all cooped up in a corner.
I ran over to them, sat the candle down, and jumped into the pile of pillows. They exploded everywhere. I let out a sigh. Something I haven’t done for ages. I laughed. I laughed so hard that I cried. Tears of joy. Not of sadness. I suddenly stopped. I wish Theo was here. Or Felix. I could go get Felix. I dismissed the thought. Then I decided to get Felix. I forgot to grab the candle when I walked to the ladder. The room was still a bright as ever.
BRIDGET V
I started to come around. My head was like a blaring alarm. I blinked a few times as everything came into focus. I pulled myself forward, but something held me back. My blurry eyes looked down and I could see an outline of shackles on my hands and ankles in this dark room.
“Hello!” I called out to no one in particular. My own voice answered.
“Hello! Hello! Hello!” I almost called back, but I realized I was alone here. I tried to sink to the floor, but I didn’t even have enough slack to do that. I sighed. Tears poured like a waterfall off my face. I tore at the chains over and over again, yet it was useless. At some point I nodded off, hanging there, crying my eyes out. I couldn’t keep track of time. I nodded off often, and no food appeared at any time. I kept trying to make fire, but none appeared. At one point an invisible person unlocked my chains and put globs of stuff on a plate in front of me. A spoon stuck out of it. My stomach growled like a fierce tiger. I grabbed the spoon and shoved food into my mouth.
It tasted just how it looked, like crap. Even though it tasted like that, I swallowed it. I pushed the plate to the side, and tried to looked through the darkness. I stumbled around for a bit, and finally ran into something that felt like a table. I found a box of matches and a candle. I fumbled around and ran into a wall. I turned around to try to get the matches. I shuffled back to where I was to light the match. I struck it many times, until finally, I got it to light. I could see it. I walked to the table and lit the candle. There was a cot, a simple side table, and a wooden chair with a bookcase full of books. I slowly walked to the bookcase, in case there was any traps. I bent down at the bookcase, and looked at the books. I should say book. There was only one, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. I have nothing else to do. I picked up the book went down to the cot and sat down.
The first page read:
Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood.
If you're reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now. Believe what-ever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life.
Being a half-blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways. If you're a normal kid, reading this because you think it's fiction, great. Read on. I envy you for being able to believe that none of this ever happened.
But if you recognize yourself in these pages-if you feel something stirring inside-stop reading immediately. You might be one of us. And once you know that, it's only a matter of time before they sense it too, and they'll come for you.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
My name is Percy Jackson. I'm twelve years old. Until a few months ago, I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York.
Am I a troubled kid?
Yeah. You could say that.
I immediately dove into the book. I had an idea about this. I will keep reading this book. I wonder if there are any other books in the series. The story carried me many always. When the girl, Annabeth came in, she reminded me of Ella. Percy reminded me of Theo.
I had reached the last page of the book.
She pursed her lips. "You won't try anything stupid during the school year, will you? At least not without sending me an Iris-message?"
I managed a smile. "I won't go looking for trouble. I usually don't have to."
"When I get back next summer," she said, "we'll hunt down Luke. We'll ask for a quest, but if we don't get approval, we'll sneak off and do it anyway. Agreed?"
"Sounds like a plan worthy of Athena."
She held out her hand. I shook it.
"Take care, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth told me. "Keep your eyes open."
"You too, Wise Girl."
I watched her walk up the hill and join her family. She gave her father an awkward hug and looked back at the valley one last time. She touched Thalia's pine tree, then allowed herself to be lead over the crest and into the mortal world.
For the first time at camp, I felt truly alone. I looked out at Long Island Sound and I remembered my father saying, The sea does not like to be restrained.
I made my decision.
I wondered, if Poseidon were watching, would he approve of my choice?
"I'll be back next summer," I promised him. "I'll survive until then. After all, I am your son." I asked Argus to take me down to cabin three, so I could pack my bags for home.
I flipped the page, and it was done. I put it up on the shelf and fell asleep on the cot. I don’t know how long I slept, but by the time I woke up, there was another book on the shelf. I went up to it. This time it was Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. I grabbed it, walked to the cot, sat down, and started my next adventure.
