Two Forces

Everybody celebrated Life. Why wouldn't they? She was fabulous. She lit up a room. She brought music, laughter, and grace to an otherwise dull and infinitely spinning spec of cosmic dust. So droll.

Life was everything. People worshipped her, fought for her, bled for her. They paid fortunes just to have more time with her, even as she laughed at the time they wasted to do so. At first, Life thought she'd give everybody the same love and attention.

But then...Life decided that was rather boring.

She wanted people to suffer for her. Surely, she was worth suffering for? Not all the people, of course. Only the ones who were less deserving of her light. Less deserving of a good Life, the best she had to offer. If they didn't earn her respect that was on them. Obviously, they hadn't worked hard enough, or tried hard enough, or pushed their little hearts she breathed into beating enough. Her graces were not for the faint or the weak. For them, they could settle for hand-me-downs or the dim edges of her shadow as she walked.

And despite her fickle nature they continued to clamor for her all the more.

Because Life was unfair.

-----

Everybody feared Death. He had no idea why. He tried so hard. Whenever there was pain or suffering he ended it. He brought peace, stillness, and seriousness to a chaotic and utterly manic sprawl of creatures who hated him for it. So unfair.

Death loved everything. People didn't see it, maybe, because they saw only the shells he left behind. They saw instead the horrors of the bodies and the corpses left in his wake, not the release of those souls from the terrors that had fallen them before he gave them grace. Death treated everyone the same, regardless of their age, their race, or their religion. It was his way.

But then...Death became the enemy.

He wanted people to understand him. Surely, they could see the careful rules he followed? He never once stepped outside the lines or boundaries, following the same patterns each time. Surely they saw, right? They knew how to escape him, or run away. Even when he felt spurned he never faulted them for trying. Yet still they blamed him - as if he had somehow chosen them out of everyone else, when he could have taken another. As if the rules he abided by weren't clear for everyone to see. As if they didn't push each other into his grasp with their actions.

And despite the fickle nature of those he tried to help he persisted all the same.

Because Death was equal.

-----

If you ask me, my child, which force I respect more then I must tell you: Life may be something to enjoy when it smiles upon us, yes. But Death should not be what makes us equal.

Rather, it should be what we are willing to risk to bring more equality into our daily fickle Life.

Equality

If we are really thinking about it, then We would know it is never going to happen in our lifetime. Maybe not even in our children's, or our Children's children's lifetimes. Racism will always be a thing that happens, and will never stop until a major event happens about it. Like, a war, or something.

And Sexism is slowly becoming less of an issue, but it isn't solved yet. Women are still recieving a smaller pay than a man will, and unfortunately, that's just a fact of life.

However, as ineffective as they are, we can continue to go to peaceful protests, because thats all that we can do, without wiping humanity out.

Please do take care,

Winter.

To Apologetically State The Obvious:

The two primary 'equalities' are not made equal. Equality of opportunity and equality of outcome are two diametrically opposed concepts; You cannot have even a semblance of one without savagely curtailing the other.

For my part, I’d like to live in a world where everyone gets a fair go; where no person has their worth pre-judged (either positively or negatively) for their genetic variations or cultural backgrounds. Because of this simple and idealistic inclination, I have a vast preference for equality of opportunity over that of outcome. But I’m no genius. Perhaps there is something I’m missing?

The Fight Continues

Equality.

It seems so simple

Yet so difficult to obtain.

My culture is fetishized

Its ideas are stolen,

packaged, and sold for profit

at the expense of my people

My culture

It’s deemed problematic

The source of society’s ills

Despite the fact

that we built this country on our backs

Our story deemed irrelevant

Unworthy of history’s remembrance

The incredible accomplishments

of my people

Erased from history.

Equality

The fight goes on

A Case for Education

Equality is the necessity to freedom. To be free is to be free from domination. Freedom from domination requires everyone concerned to be of equal station, station being Latin for “stand,” or where we stand with other people.

This is the purpose of both our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, to ascertain that if we as individuals are to have freedom, then the strength to have it must reside in our people’s equality, no one being greater than another.

The path to achieving equality of station lies through education, and our ability to use language to influence the choices we make collectively... to debate, and to agree.

So, it could be said that equality = community.

The word currently bouncing around politically is equity, equity differing from equality in the assumption that some people may need different treatment to make their opportunities the same as another’s. The question then becomes, “how much equity, or differing treatment, to achieve fairness?”

The answer to that question will come from he or she who is better able to influence community.

With these points in mind, it stands to reason that the person who is less educated will always be more open to domination by the person who is more educated, as that person will be better able to influence community.

So, if you fear domination... educate yourself. We are fortunate to live in a country and time where one may establish, or create, one’s own equality through their own effort.

Well, what are you waiting for? Some old guy who didn’t make it though one year of college’s crummy advice? Go out and grab your equality!

Hell... who knows? You might not even have to pay back your loan. That’s equity for you.

Broods sans Attitudes

I am equally unimpressed by all.

Forms of flattery.

Each of their great halls.

Note the pictures on the wall.

Selfies are portraits.

Bought and paid for each. (on their own)

Such was their call.

Mortals that aspired. And conspired to become gods.

Gaul could be the death of us?

Have a nice trip?

Check the scene in the next stall.

Everybody’s shit stinks you think.

Even you plastic dolls.

Guess who thinks the same faced with yours?

Them all.

On equality

The concept of equality is a key element on which it seems that our society is built from immemorial ages. Its absence and different meanings are influencing our lives to some extent.

In view of tackling the matter briefly, I should start by pointing out that equality should not be misconstrued by pretending that we are all identical. A more proper way to put it would be that we all should have the opportunity to make anything in our power to achieve something, to prove that we are worthy, to obtain some respect and recognition or whatever our heart desires, it does not matter, and, subsequently, the best one should succeed, according to an ideal world, in which we do not live, unfortunately. So a lot of unfair, brutal things happen, and the best thing we can do is to offer to everyone the chance to obtain something, and then to sit and wait for the outcome, which might appear unsatisfying and cruel, even if the premises regarding the human factor were as balanced as possible, in which case there is nothing we can do except to blame the absurdity and coldness of the universe. But often our race creates awful, selective laws on the power of which only a select group could rely, then the others rebel and change the situation in their favour, and so we face again an infringement of the meritocracy, the movement of the extremes pointing towards our inability to create a utopian world. The sole solution, despite our constantly supining efforts, would be, in my mind, to attempt to avoid the violence of any kind and the squalid misery to which some of us are, sadly, doomed, meanwhile not supporting the fanatics, although their ideas might seem good and promising at first, because any thought, if followed relentlessly, becomes a dogma, which leads to revolutions and endless prolonging of suffering and atrocity.

Now, the unique resolution of the dilemma is related to the transcendent, meaning the religion or other mystical beliefs. We are all equal in the eyes of God, they say. This spiritual matter is a tacky one, so I would retain myself on expanding upon it, yet, generally speaking, what they promise is delivered in a delayed future, like the afterlife or the Nirvana, so we are left unfulfilled, still fumbling, craving for an equality which never arrives, and, when sometimes it happens to some extent, our insatiable ego might not recognise it or qualify as its opposite.

Wherever we look, there is always a dead end. Should we give up? Yes, to some extent, as with renouncement might come consolation and peace. And, most importantly, I would suggest not to analyze it too much and not try to obtain it with despair, which does not mean that one must stay idle if something terrible takes place in the vicinity, of course, if that does not imply harming yourself or the others. And that should be it, I suppose. All further action is just a desperate try to rationalize the universe and make it less scary. Because, ultimately, what is equality? A word, a symbol among other systems. And the language is a limited instrument, although the apex of logic.

equality

some days i think it must be impossible.

as long as we have individuality, we must also have hate

a balance on some cosmic scale.

i want to tip the scale

in favor of love

but it's too heavy to move alone.

i push and heave with thin arms,

but even if i was the strongest person alive,

i'd never be able to tip it alone.

it takes all of us.

but unanimity is impossible.

there's always one dissenter

always one who favors hate.

there are two ways to have equality.

either everyone looks the same

or we all agree that it's ok if we don't.

either way requires all of us.

and so equality is impossible.

Look Around You

We are all equal even if we are different. This place, this country, this world, is filled with amazing people and if we all saw what made us equal when we looked around there would be less drama, less fights, less wars, less death and bloodshed. We may come from different places, we may come from wealth, we may come from nothing, we may look different, act different, see things differently, and sometimes that brings hate and war but if we recognize and respect, even if we don't agree, each others choices we will all see that our ideas are equal, our love and kindness is equal, our respect is equal, WE ARE EQUAL.

Listen closely to the wind,

It carries ideas new and old,

It brings hope and prosperity to the ones who need it most,

Look to the sun,

It shines new light on all things we see,

It brings love and care to everyone under its rays,

Walk with your dreams,

They show you what you need to see,

They give you laughter and pleasure when it is needed most,

Talk with your elders, friends, and family,

They will give you wisdom beyond your years,

Talk with your neighbors, pets, and aquentinces ,

You never know where lessons will come from,

Talk with your enemies, haters, and ignorers,

They will tell you were you go wrong,

So you will never ever make a promise you can't keep,

All around you are people who will help,

Even in the most unlikely places.

We are all equal but we can all give each other something.

Life is Unfair

I think equality is an illusion. People will anyways treat each other with contempt over the pettiest of things. Whether they're from a different country, state, city, or neighbourhood. There will always be anger. Men will always have opportunities women will never have and vice versa. There will always be a ruling class and a poor class. There will always be people who can't catch a break and there will be people who will have everything handed to them. Though the roles may reverse.

We can create opportunities for everyone with quotas for every race, gender, etc. Though that will neglect those who probably deserve the job the most and your value becomes what group you belong to rather than who you are as an individual. We can make everything purely a meritocracy and only the most deserving people get the job. Then we neglect those who may need it the most or neglect those who never had the opportunity, to begin with.

I don't know what the answer to inequality is or if there is even an answer. Because ultimately, no matter what we do. Life is unfair.
