Not Lost
When I first came to Prose in 2015, I was involved as a working designer and publisher of small short-run tangible paperback books, that I did mostly as a labor of love for aging poets and those with profound mental/physical disabilities. I was involved in NAMI and created a program where I'd take those who were lost, feeling thrown away, yet had sparks of genius and overflowing journals, and focus them on writing.
Having worked as a writer commercially, I'd have them select the 50-75 poems required to make even a small book and we'd sit and read them for content, structure and meaning...and we'd talk often many months. I'd suggest edits and rewrites and make them really work and think about their experiences and the best way to tell others what they really wanted to say as only they could say it. Their stories true always painful but also with bits of joy and brilliance.
I'd design and pay to have the books published in quantities of 100 back when short-run printing was easily available and cost-effective, giving the authors a box of 50 and working to sell or donate the rest to other NAMIs or an Amazon to try to break even.
There is nothing I've ever seen that so changed any person more than opening these boxes and touching their first real book. In those moments I watched beaten-up souls evolve instantly from victim to author. It was a beautiful transforming thing.
I found it fulfilling and came here originally hoping to find others...hence my name Finder.
Pen Name
Honestly, I was deliberating over what my pen name would be for the longest time, until I had the most genius idea - let me make it my initials!
Yeah, I couldn't really come up with anything that good. But there it is: ISE.
My given name is Jane. No middle name. Plain Jane...I learned to read with the Dick and Jane series. A common theme in these riveting tomes was movement; "See Jane go. Go Jane, go!" Having that burned into my brain is an excellent reminder to keep moving, keep creating, keep going, because what is the other option? Stagnation.
Fragments
My pen name, Marissa Wolfe, is a combination of part of my name and part of my husband's name. I wanted a title that separated me from my former creative pursuits, but still had some aspect of who I am today. My prose username itself is an offshoot of the web address of my blog.
CookieTheWriter
So, let's break the name up. Let's start with Cookie. Cookie is the name of my dog actually. My profile picture is him. He is SOOOOO cute, but barks at everyone. The just came from nowhere really. It just connects Cookie and Writer. Writer is because I write, for fun. I'm not an author, but a writer. I hope to be an author though.
The Latest Origin Story of Roses311Sublime
My Prose persona is the same as my former AOL Instant Messenger screen name. The name was generated by AOL when I picked three bands I loved at the time (and still enjoy), whom are Guns N' Roses, 311 and Sublime. I liked the screen name enough to keep it alive as an online pen name :-)
It’s in the name: jtwannabewriter
I am JT and I wannabe a writer, telling a good story, published and selling. To be a writer means I need to write. To write I need to hold myself accountable via coercion and guilt. I will always be a wannabe until I finish my works. I am JT the Wannabe Writer.
MoonLioness
My pen name is my actual name translated to English. I actually use this name across other websites, mostly games. 'Moon' is for my first name, but my actual name translates to 'Moonlight'. 'MoonlightLioness' is a bit of a mouthful. 'Lion' comes from my last name and the 'ess' is because I'm female.
Queen of the Pool Team
Daphne, is the first name of my pen name. I chose this as it was my nickname when I was playing for a local pool team. No, it isn't a Scooby Doo reference, it happens to rhyme (sort of) with my real name. Any guesses?
The H, is the initial of my assumed last name. I share it with a famously beheaded Queen. There are other sentiments to this but they aren't as interesting as royal decapitation.
