Rulebending
I have a talent for less
and an aura pristine
(but for holes, and stains
among cadres of things)
I ache to feel better
am a puzzle-less clue
with a talent for less
and thoughts to chew.
Perseverance
Everyone
is good
at something...
the key
and
the difficulty
is discovering
what
that thing
is.
Thus,
the real
superpower
is
the sticktoitiveness
required
to get to that place
while
you don't know where
you're going
or if
you'll ever get there...
till
you do.
Silence
Silence is a superpower for those who are truly brave
Immediately defending ones-self or jumping to conclusions happens too often
Learning when to speak and when to listen has become a lost art
Everyone has their own story and own mind and are quick to jump in
Never really stopping the flow to consider that others have more to say
Calling the shots instead of following the lead of a friend
Engaging in conversation should not be such a competition
Sometimes we are so caught up in ourselves, we forget our supporters
Anybody worth keeping around requires some relationship maintenance
Veering off topic can prevent those closest to you from asking for help
Even if they don't need saving, they might need to feel heard
So silence, though difficult, is a superpower for friends in need
Hard Work Trumps Talent
Some people are born on top of the hill
And it's lovely for the ones who are
The power to excel from the start
It's a wonderful feeling, for sure
That is, unless they realize that
what they're good at
they don't like doing
very much at all
Talent...
A blessing to some,
a curse to others
Wings to some,
a cage to others
A sure sign that
the only sure gift to any
is Hard Work:
The true superpower often overlooked
The true superpower often underestimated
The true superpower anybody can have
Hidden Superpower
Holding my past against me
Even when I said I repented
Telling me that I will never succeed
Even when I keep getting back up
Denying me every single time
Even when I never stopped showing up
Saying that nature never changes
Even when I keep saying that I changed
Laughing at my desperation
Even when I said that I have nothing else
Judging me without knowing what's in my heart
Is it a superpower everyone is born with?
Talent is Not
Talent is not a superpower
Everyone has it
In some way or form
And therefore no one has it
A rare fortune bestowed
Everyone does not have
The chance to discover their talent
But some have it
The potential to work with more power
To rise above the naturally gifted
To dream of fortunes greater
Everyone has it
You’re so Talented
This is an insult to the hours.
I am not special
I am ruthless
I seek truth like it
hurts me to do less.
My art is more
than mere minutes
I bore into it
I just love to write
to rhyme when they tell me not to
love to find that kernel of proof
that grain of sand they took
with my word. My mind is driven—
not by destiny, but by pride
Skill is more than
talent over time

i claim to not believe in talent
that it belittles artists
who work hard to be skilled
but i don't have another word
that explains why i'm like this
why i can so clearly see
everything in my mind
before i make it
why my brain is like a track
for words to cross through
from some part of the sky
to the ground
it's never been difficult for me
to think of the right words
unless i have to say them out loud
but i don't believe in talent
so i just say i'm not good
Want
Talent. Tantalizing, too tall to reach, and yet
Ceases to be itself when you climb for it
The envy of the average, the drug of the exceptional
A gift from God grasped by the fingers of Want
Want although we do not know its meaning
Want although we question its mattering
It lies deep within us
Tangled up in our obsessions and drives
The minotaur in the maze, the string that we follow, and the bride who waits with held breath
Its size does not matter, it fills us the same as it leaves us empty
The talent to sing is not the talent to smile
The talent of mind is not the talent of hands
But these talents, living in our bodies like a spirit of their own
Are nothing more than the insatiability for skill
And a raw hope that we may one day see what our Want already does
Talent Is…
The God given
head start
that the Hare
had wasted
and the Tortoise
worked for.
