Green Glass Love

I love the way you say something is "ours" or that "we" really enjoyed a certain restaurant. Or the way you say "should be good for us!" When someone asks to make plans, I love that we're a team and I don't have to think twice about it.

I love the way you trace the contours of my face with your fingertips, and remember that running your thumb over my eyebrow calms me immediately. You have me memorized in ways I never thought anyone could.

I love that you know all the things that broke my heart, and that you know which dress I wear to impress you. I love that you gave that Tiffany blue dress new life, and gave me a reason to dress up again.

You make me feel strong, when I feel paper thin and falter in the wind.

You curb my ego when I'm headstrong, and bring me back down to earth when I'm light years ahead of myself.

I feel like a kid with you, so silly and adventurous and ready to share this giant world like a huge playground in an everlasting game of tag.

I love that you love to see my nerdy side, and that you understand why a Mayan ruin could bring me to tears. And when I do cry, out of one eye, you tease me into smiling.

You make me laugh, you make me cry, you make me question my own thoughts, and challenge me every day. You make me strong, and you make me proud to love so fiercely. You make me better.

You make me human.

Toss and Turn

Every night since you left

I curl up on the right side of the bed,

Your side.

Tucked tightly against the wall,

Burying myself in blankets,

Where I used to bury into your chest.

Hoping to catch a brief hint

Of your cologne.

Every morning,

Without fail,

I wake up on the left side,

My side.

Blankets hanging precariously over

The edge of the mattress.

The fitted sheet, pulled away.

I lose the same war

Each night.

Waking without you,

Sends shockwaves through every inch

Of exposed flesh as I reach for you

In the middle of the night,

My hand falls through

A deep nothingness,

And I realize

I'm alone

Again.

What I wouldn't give,

To reach out,

To find you

At arms reach.
