Reaching Today
1. Really, I started writing two separate times. Once in 9th grade, so freshmen year of high school, I began writing poetry and short stories. Let’s be honest I’d start short stories and then fail to finish them. Good inspiration material at this point though. Then, I took a creative writing class some one-two years later and got written up and bitched at by the teacher for writing a poem about my suicidal depression and stopped writing.
Which brings us to the second time I started writing. Three-ish years ago my job, my personal relationships, and my mental health all took a tumble, so I tried writing a full-length novel. There was a large part of me trying to reach my significant other of the time. I’m about half done but am still working on it in between writing short stories and blog posts. In hindsight, what I lost was worth it.
2. To no one’s surprise, I am heavily introverted. Writing gives me a voice and method of speaking without immediate engagement. I can work out my own feelings or live out idle fantasies in my own personalized stories. As a significant bonus, I can then share these with those close to me or the world at large, depending on the piece, to have my voice heard and to give something back to the person who reads it.
3. My current ultimate goal would have to be finishing my projects with higher regularity than I currently do. More specifically, finishing and publishing my novel. I have the full idea and roughly 25k words, out of an estimated 50-60k, completed (said quietly: of a first draft.) I am highly considering restarting it as I want it to represent specific parts of me accurately which keeps changing. I think I shall go work on that now.
