From distance

A wildflower

Masquerading as a rose

In love only with what the heart knows

Tiptoeing close

Dancing around the idea

Of something unknown

Pieces of polish

Like bright stars hidden behind the clouds

I can feel your image complete

To place my hands in the murky water

And wade through its lies

Its misdirection

I can feel you hugging the tips of my fingers

Your tangible matter

Holding onto me

Imbuing freedom and direction

To a soul that’s lost all perception

How the sun wanes overhead

Your smile

Permeating through its soft light

How the wind felt today

And the ways it carried your subtle laugh

To the softest parts of my heart

I can’t help but sink into the sheets of my bed

To be swallowed

Face first

By the cold hands of the frame

A ritualistic descent

To be lost from the world

To lose myself

Leaving behind those good parts of me

To be seen

Like oil in water

I dove in but never fit

Drip by solid drip

I dove in

We just didn’t fit 

I can still see my reflection fill the black of your eyes

Permeating bright

Like a bleeding fluorescent light

Leaking radiant waves

Lucently raging waves

Flowing like an ocean’s tide

Passing glances with a half raised hand 

Nervous smiles and an empty head

Unintentional conversations 

Always ended with goodbyes until we met with our eyes again
