Prestidigitation
Quite a mouthful, isn't it?
~ ~
Spread a deck of cards
and I will indulge
chances of spades and hearts
and fingers light with tricks.
Shuffle, stack, shuffle, stack
diamond and club faces,
nimble flick and replace,
folds my indulgence again.
Foiled suspicions discourage
adept practice defies logic.
While magic, it seems,
steps beyond mere fantasy
To the cards motley color scheme
and foolery hidden between,
offers truth not in chances
only guileful observation.
Only breath stops the game
of couplets faced for trickery.
Truths hidden surreptitiously
in subtle turns of mastery.
I appease the game's old nature
with a faceted mask and smirk
and beckon mystery's face closer
if only for the barest truth.
