Amy
Amy walks in the rain
in order to feel alive
with schoolbooks in hand
and a golden pencil case that
matches her golden ringlets
She walks to school everyday
hoping to see that boy who
eyed her in chemistry 2 weeks ago
His face consumes her memory...
She enters the building and walks to
first period with a smile because she feels
that today will be rather sweet
But she fades amongst the hordes
of adolescents
It was a sad sight to see...
He stood outside the door
feeling up another girl's breasts
and Amy stood back and watched,
not sure how to feel or act
She is suddenly awakened by a shout
across the hallway, as a redhead girl, Barbara,
calls to her in utter joy
She had been asked out by Dylan, a gawky boy
but a boy nonetheless, and Amy thinks about
how funny it is that the universe has decided to turn
its back against her, in her most despairing time
Amy puts on her excited face for Barbara,
congratulating her for the "momentous" occasion
and silently declines into a pit of raging jealousy
she felt sad...
Amy sat through every class feeling empty
She wandered the halls like a ghost
and wondered why she was so unloved
by her fellow pupils
-------------
The boy in history liked her
and he dreamt about her every night
and she flooded his daydreams when he
was supposed to be doing his homework
But Amy, according to her friends,
should never date someone as "uncool"
as him, so she never really bothered
He always wondered why he
wasn't good enough...
He looked in the mirror everyday
to see why people were so repelled by him
but could never seem to find any flaws
-------------
Amy walks to class the next week
and declares to her friends
that she is into casual relationships
and that is why she doesn't have a boy
to claim as her own
They all start to look up at her
as if she were some important woman
who could get off with any
boy she chose
And Amy reveled in this admiration...
In truth, Amy wanted commitment
but of course she could never tell
any of her friends this
So she kept to herself most of the time
Especially now, after developing feelings
for the boy in history class, the
one they told her she could never date
She felt hurt from the other boy in chemistry
so she sought solace in the knowledge that
the boy she was socially forbidden to date
had desired her...
She spent more time alone now
as her feelings grew and grew
like a flower within her soul
And she smiled a bit, as she sipped her coke
and flashed glances his way
where they acknowledged each other's
presence...
-------------
Amy walks in the rain
in order to feel alive
with the boys hand in hers
laughing and smiling
as she heads home
to indulge in the pleasures
of teen love...
