Treasures in the Desert ~ part three
Awakening at five in the morning Dora felt relaxed even tho she had fallen asleep in her chair all night. Her TV was still on the History channel and a repeat of treasure hunting was still there. She watched it a bit then remembered the big brown satchel in the back of her car. Thinking after putting on some coffee to brew and a bit of breakfast she would go out to the garage and haul that heavy bag out to see what was inside and if there was any information inside as to who might be the rightful owner.
It was lighter outside so she carried the bag to the back patio where she barely got it up on the table. Using a whisk broom to clean off the dust then a soft wet cloth run over the nameplate she started examining where she might open the bag without breaking the lock.
The nameplate was covered in thick grungy dirt and desert debris so she went to the kitchen and got a little bowl mixing in a few tablespoons of lemon juice and one tablespoon of baking soda rubbing the mixture onto the nameplate until the grime began to come off. She was polishing it with a clean cloth when her phone rang. It was Dr. Blake asking if she could pick up her dog, Mo~Jo, early so they could close the office early.
“Yes of course I will come pick him up right now.” replied Dora.
Mo~Jo was happy to see Dora after four days being the kennel. When they arrived home they spent a good thirty minutes playing catch the ball.
“Mo~Jo you wear me out come on let's go inside.” commented Dora.
She saw the nameplate she had been working on and it turned out pretty readable and that made her quite happy. The name on the plate said: DR CRAINE MD
“Oh my goodness he spells his name the same as I do. I wonder if we are related?” she mumbled out loud.
Mo~Jo came over and cocked his head looking at her with a curious look then put his paw on her knee. You little stinker she called to him. She went over to the satchel and carefully tried to open the lock but it was stuck pretty tight. Who knows how long it had been in the desert. She decided to put a bit of WD-40 on the latch only and let it sit for a while.
She then went to her computer and started a search on
Dr Craine MD. No luck but there is lots of time.
Dora heard a rattling of her back screen door and it was the neighbors cat, Be-Be. She let the cat in and she went over to Mo~Jo's water dish for a sip. Mo~Jo came over to see his friend and they sniffed each other then all of a sudden they started racing all over the kitchen. Dora came back into the kitchen and said sharply: “OK you two energy ball outside right now!”
She held the screen door open and out went Be-Be as fast as she could with Mo~Jo soon behind right after he knocked over the satchel and a few of the contents spilled out onto the floor. A long envelope was showing.
