Get Real
Now that we've been together two decades
We can abandon our fragile facades
Intimacy isn't lace lingerie
It is committing, through it all, to stay
I promise to wear sweats, remove bra too
But, in comfort, will still be there for you
You'll see me before makeup, unkempt hair
When you can't find your glasses, I'll point there
We'll fight, and even attend counselling
And I'll contemplate taking off my ring
But, we'll admire our beautiful girl
And realize we've made a great little world
I'll sweep the floor and you'll do the dishes
We'll count our blessings and make some wishes
You in your flannel and me in my sweats
We'll forego romance for some permanence
Some say it's routine, I say commitment
Cuz love really is more than sentiment
Hearts and flowers do not that much matter
It's love enduring, though we grow fatter
Reality, not romance, is what counts
Not roses and chocolate by the ounce
My words I'll keep succint, not a sonnet
But the thought behind it, do count on it
So, I write this not-so-sugary sweet
Testament to our love, our life so neat
I love you, it is more than just habit
I'll hold for you the brass ring- reach, grab it!
