Falling out of Love is a Similar Process to Falling in Love
Falling out of love is a similar process to falling in love,
But instead you are throwing up the butterflies
And pasting the petals back onto the stem
(You didn’t realize how awfully it tasted until pieces of desperate butterflies lie on your tongue)
Rather than drinking to have fun
You break your teeth on vodka bottles,
You drink your way to sleep
(You understand life may not be out to get you, but someone sure as hell is)
Your stomach tightens and prepares for you to scream,
But you will not open your mouth
For you are ashamed to admit it aches from pain,
And not her contagious laughter still ringing
(You learn it is possible to physically hear your heart pound in your ear)
Falling out of love is a similar process to falling in love,
But instead you are tearing the boards off of the home you once referred,
And removing the lock on the door
(You didn’t realize how badly it reeked until you drove your fist through the plaster)
