Biggest Fear: Helplessness
Hadley checked the cap of her pepper spray for the seventeenth time as she walked to her car. She scanned the parking lot, opened the door, and plopped down into the seat. Pulling her seat-belt on, she went through the usual mental process. She recounted the steps one would take in the event he or she were in an accident, were trapped in a vehicle, or were the victim of a hijacking. Instinctively, Hadley reached into the car's console and felt for the hammer she kept stashed there. Once she was absolutely certain that everything was prepared, she started the vehicle. It didn't take her long to get home, where she clutched onto her pepper spray once again. A quick walk into her house, and she was engaging all six locks on the door and turning on her security system. As Hadley did every evening, she went through every room in the small house and checked to see if all her firearms were in place. Finally, after they had all been accounted for, the young woman allowed herself to relax somewhat. She made herself dinner, repeating safety drills in the event of a fire or accidentally slicing off her finger over and over again. She ate, being sure to chew each bite a total of one hundred times to ensure she wouldn't choke. She brushed her teeth, changed into her pajamas, and slipped into her bed. Hadley wore her Ugg boots to sleep, in the event she would need to run outside from an intruder or if there was a house-fire or a gas leak. Eventually she felt herself begin to drift into a very light sleep, phone and pepper spray on the nightstand beside her.
