Show Down (Part 5)
Out of the ground, right where Fisher had been standing, erupted a machine, so big and so dark, it seemed as though a mountain had formed in front of them. Four trunk like legs supported a roughly spherical shaped body. Two massive arms protruded from the front sides of the sphere, on the end of each was a wicked looking claw. The machine was a dull grey all around, save for a small window up top, Vertilline assume that was the control room. As she and Fisher watched, eight ports opened in the machine and immense cannons pointed out of each.
Vertilline searched for words. "What the... Where did it... How?"
Fisher looked just as stunned as Vertilline. He grabbed her arm and ran down the nearest street. The machine moved after them, its huge body crushing building after building. This creation was the epitome of General Riggs' force. It moved at the rate of a handicapped snail and stopped for nothing. The thick armor around its body prevented it from taking damage from most anything that could be chucked at it.
Fisher and Vertilline quickly outpaced the monstrosity but they knew that they wouldn't be safe anywhere in the city. They could hear it smashing brick walls, ripping steel frameworks right out of the ground, and crushing stones under its feet. This was as close to an unstoppable force as it was possible to make.
When they had put several blocks between them and the machine, Vertilline slowed and gasped, "We have to figure out some way of stopping that thing. If we don't, it will make its way across the Straight of Astydda right into Nydria."
Fisher stopped and turned towards her, "I know that. You'll have to meet Baider and tell him to muster as much weaponry as he can. I'm going to go back to distract that thing."
"What?!" You are doing no such thing!" Vertilline exclaimed. "It'll crush you!"
Fisher shook his head, "I got plot armor. This thing can't touch me."
"You have what?"
"Never mind." With that, Fisher ran back towards the machine.
