Harry Situation Reviews: Logan
Review #90 had to be this film, didn't it? Oh well. Let's get the claws out one last time!
SNIKT!
DAAAAWW-DAD-DAD-DAAAA! DAAAAWW-DAD-DAD-DAAAA! DAAAAWW-DAD-DAD-DAAAA! DA-DA-DAWN-DAWN-DAWN-DAWN-DAAAAAAWWWW!
Hugh Jackman brings out the adamatium claws one last time in his final film portraying everyone's favorite X-Man, Wolverine. It's hard to believe that someone who was well known for broadway could possible play such a badass character like Wolverine. Nowadays I can't imagine anyone else as the role.
The story for Logan is that in the year 2029, mutants are almost extinct due to an unknown contagion. Now all that remains are an aging Wolverine/Logan and Charles Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart). Suddenly they both find themselves under guardianship of a mysterious girl (played by Dafne Keen), who shares some similar qualities to Logan. Chased after dark forces who seek to use the girl, Logan is ultimately drawn back into action despite his hopelessness. Will he finally find peace in his violent life?
This is hands down not only the best X-Men film to date, but also the best film this year so far. This film is an ultra violent, emotional tribute to the character, and it played out beautifully.
Hugh Jackman is still the definitive Wolverine and he gives it his all in this film. The rage, the emotion, the attitude, it is all there. It's going to be hard to picture someone else as Wolverine now. Patrick Stewart is also amazing. My god was it hard to see his character in this state throughout the film. He is the most powerful mutant with the most powerful mind, but his mind is deteriorating that I couldn't help but get choked up. This is also Patrick Stewart's last performance as Professor X and he too did a damn good job. Dafne Keen was great as X-23. She and Hugh Jackman played off each other super well it was almost like they were father and daughter. Come to think of it, she does look an awfully lot like Hugh Jackman. Hmm.
You can thank Deadpool for being so successful as an R-rated movie, otherwise we would never get the chance to see Wolverine slice through baddies in bloody fashion. Holy fuck, do not, I repeat, DO NOT take your kids to see this movie. It is violent as fuck! I can't tell you how many times I cringed at all the times Wolverine put his claws through some poor fucker's head. And it was so fucking awesome to see it all on the big screen. If you're not into violent flicks, it's definitely not for you.
Again this movie is also very heavy on the emotion. There's very few moments of comedy, but that's because this isn't a comedy. It's more of a tragedy. You feel for all the characters. I'm not going to lie to you, by the end of the film I was in tears.
I'm going to wrap this up by stating this is the Wolverine movie fans deserved and I can't thank the people who worked on this enough. If there's one downside I'd say that the film did go on a little too long. There were some scenes that they could have edited out but it was no big deal. It's a must see for X-Men fans! I loved the movie. Thank you so much Hugh Jackman for 17 years of your amazing performance as everyone's favorite comic book character. I wish you well in your long career!
Alright, bub! It's grading scale time!
