A Body of Pain
The pain in layers brutally applied,
Like skin;
Carelessly plastered back to a wound.
Consequences oozing from the flesh,
Like blood;
Squeezed from a venomous snake bite.
Reality choking out life's joy,
Like lungs;
Forcefully filled with muddy water.
Trust left shattered on the floor,
Like ribs;
Crushed by a devastating blow.
Hope left hanging on by a bloody thread,
Like a body;
Ravaged by death yet filled with adrenaline.
Rotting is the past I leave behind,
Like a corpse;
Abandoned to decay in the fiery heat of the desert.
Distant is the hopeful future
Like an eye;
Gazing longingly at beauty beyond its reach.
