Toss and Turn
Every night since you left
I curl up on the right side of the bed,
Your side.
Tucked tightly against the wall,
Burying myself in blankets,
Where I used to bury into your chest.
Hoping to catch a brief hint
Of your cologne.
Every morning,
Without fail,
I wake up on the left side,
My side.
Blankets hanging precariously over
The edge of the mattress.
The fitted sheet, pulled away.
I lose the same war
Each night.
Waking without you,
Sends shockwaves through every inch
Of exposed flesh as I reach for you
In the middle of the night,
My hand falls through
A deep nothingness,
And I realize
I'm alone
Again.
What I wouldn't give,
To reach out,
To find you
At arms reach.
