Biggest Lesson
I Looked at this challenge thinking to avoid it. The reason being, there are so many life lessons, so choosing the biggest was too difficult for me. But it's a challenge. So I challenged myself to pick a life lesson that was the biggest. Aside from cognitive understanding, humor, awareness of dishonesty, science or accepting that hatred exists, one thing I learned proved to be most powerful in life. The lesson surfacing time and time again in my life has been that of compassion. It is love. It is very closely related to empathy but true compassion trumps it all.
For example, your child skins his/her knee. You care, you console, you bandage, you might even explain healing. You love the discomfort away somehow.
Now imagine doing all that for a stranger. That is compassion. It is a lesson I consider the biggest in life.
A beetle crawls across your floor. They don't bite. It has obviously misplaced itself. But it doesn't belong in your home. Kill it? Many will. Help it get outside? Yes.
If the sick neglected dog commercials bug you, if the flys on the faces of little black kids in Africa bug you, you have compassion. Congratulations, you have arrived.
