Challenge
"Oh how I wish I were a rose . . . " Write a first person poem in the voice of a plant.
Time to get back to nature! Write a first person poem in the voice of a plant. Get inside the head of lettuce, explore the inner thoughts of a daisy, or ponder the long life of a great oak. I will enter one of my poems as an example (and to sweeten that prize pot). The winner will be chosen by me and I am looking for creativity, rhythm (rhyming or not), and detail. Good LUCK!
A Rose
"Oh, how I wish I were a rose," she sighed,
And with a painful tug
She took me from my place
And put me in a jug.
"Oh, how I wish I were a rose," she sighed,
Then why was she so cruel?
My thorns were not enough
To protect from this fool.
"Oh, how I wish I were a rose," she sighed,
Tore off every leaf,
Swept away my petals,
Ignorant of my grief.
"Oh, how I wish I were a rose," she sighed,
Yet must be full of spite.
She tore me from the light
And watched me slowly die.
