Ariac Castle (Part 3)
Needless to say, Isaac Mortimer was alone in the castle and he was perfectly fine with it. Actually, the castle was empty; Isaac was out hunting. In the past, he had used magic to keep the castle safe from the Terrinati, but he could also use his magic attract them. This was exactly what he was doing.
The Terrinati were lizards about the size of big dogs and always hunted at night. Their luminescent pink bodies made them very easy to see, but also doubled as an attractant to various creatures that would meet their demise at the Terrinati's teeth. Isaac would not be one of these creatures. He was the only thing in these mountains that could, and did, successfully hunt the Terrinati. He found their meat was chewy but flavorful and he respected their ruthless hunting styles. He felt he could absorb that into his own essence. Ah yes, that was another thing frowned upon by the Mage Council; the act of absorbing another creature's being. Not the simple act of eating it or absorbing the magic it held, but actually absorbing its essence, the thing that made it what it was. Gthrre and taught him how to do that, it made him stronger and more vigorous.
Isaac had trapped two Terrinati so far and was in the process of catching another when, seemingly appearing from thing air, an arrow fell in front of him on the stones. It had not been shot, or at least it did not fly like a shot arrow, rather it simply fell from a point in the sky about twelve feet up. Isaac warily wove a charm of protection around himself and then crept closer to the arrow and the point from which it had fallen. As he moved forward he noticed a shimmer and a sort of glimmer in the air in front of him. It was as though the air was being warped by some unseen force. Tentatively he reached his spell protected hand out. It was stopped a foot in front of him by a solid, invisible wall.
