Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
After paying his dues to the
Devil,
Chris stumbled out
Over tottering planks
At the stroke of
Midnight...
In the mist, he lingered
On a dock
That he'd been warned
About earlier...
...He's been told that
A secret convoy
Met here
After hours...
Aground clouds
Obscured his sight
Beyond the deck,
But quite hastily
A scow
Slid in like a shank,
Glowing with her own
Unnatural light,
Splitting fog
In half
With her bow,
And striking
Figurehead...
...A nude mermaid
Swaddled
In a serpent
Who's fangs were
Embedded in her
Left calf...
...The mermaid's
Eyes
Were shock white...
...Though her timbered
Gold brown
Skin
Had been weathered,
Her death was
Always cyclic,
And everlasting...
...Chris was smitten
With the beauty
She could resonate
With her
Shapely
Bust,
Hinging on
Death.
He was ushered on the
Ship
By two swathed idler's,
Through the lubber's
Hole,
And to the galley...
...Chris has never
Known the tally
Of his life
Until this time...
...Now the boat
Proceeded onward,
Toward some
Incognito dream...
...There was an
Island
In the distance...
...For Chris
That was all
The dirt
He'd seize
About his enigmatic
Fate...
...Once again
Drawing a blank,
As the sunless
Water curled, and
The Moon sent
Scattered
Schemes...
