Ariac Castle (Part 4)
Isaac Mortimer looked up and down the invisible wall as best he could. The wall was truly invisible, but a trained Mage could see the shimmer of magic that ran along the wall and concealed it from normal sight.
Isaac reached out to touch the wall yet again. This time he moved his hand back and forth trying to find a weak spot in the Invisibility spell. Just as he felt the spot, a jolt of energy ran up the length of his arm and he fell back from the wall, his body numb.
He found himself standing in the past, or rather, in a memory of his past. He watched as his younger self dueled with another Mage in the courtyard of the School of Mages. He remembered this day well. It was a tradition in the School of Mages to test the abilities of the students by having them compete in a structured magical tournament. The best of the best fought, and the one who rose above the others would be granted many honors in the school. Isaac, watched himself fight tooth and nail, throwing everything he had into the battle with the other student. This was the final showdown of battles in the tournament. Him versus the other student, and only one could win.
Isaac opened his eyes. He was on the ground in front of the invisible wall. Ah, the spell casters had been clever with their wards. Not only had it knocked him back from the wall a good ten feet but it had also temporarily rendered him unconscious. The spell was also intended to cast the intruder back to a distant memory so as to confuse them and distract them from their intruding. Isaac was familiar with such spells. He had used them often.
