POETRY IN WRITING
Anyone whose has ever written a poem knows
That awful feeling when the lyrics don’t flow or sounds more like prose
Times like those I ask myself WWSS? What would Shakespeare say?
If he was the one rhyming here today
I’m really a songwriter not much of a poet
Well at least I don’t know yet
For when I’m writing my poetry
There are lots of unwanted emotions coming to my memory
Maybe I’m trying too hard to say something that’s really deep
I gotta learn to crawl, learn to walk, even fly before I can leap
So that creative punch lines into your mind will really seep
Many of my poems start out as words written in silence
That came to together to paint life and even sometimes my own personal experience
In trying to write a classic classic and not a throwaway
The most difficult thing is trying to say something meaningful without being cliché
Using metaphors, puns and similes that are real and explicit
But sometimes there are no words, no words that will fit
But quitters never win and winners never quit
Just keep writing and living up your dreams.
For you don’t know what good can come from your newfound hobby
Just look on the irony of me writing a poem about writing poetry
