Lovers In The Grass
fingers clutching, heavy head cradled
between the wings of shoulder blades
arms dangling angular entwined -
the light fades, the harbour diamonds dim
cockatoos screech, encircle the sky -
still they smile, dreamily
her head thrown back, eyes closed
lustrous silk laid black across
an open throat -
hand hot over her eyes, he pulls her in
eyes now locked, bodies bound -
world shimmers and dissolves
leaves this surrender, on the green.
They fall apart.
She sits up, pulls straight her shirt
Looks out to the sea.
He turns his head
Notices me
(surreptitious in shame
and never more alone.)
