Loud House Creator Fired - My Thoughts
So yeah it was a rough time for Loud House fans last week. If you haven't heard the news one of the most recent allegations of sexual harassment in Hollywood comes from Nickelodeon studios. Chris Savino, best known as the creator of the popular nicktoon The Loud House, has been fired when at least a dozen women have come forward revealing his inappropriate behavior, which apparently have been going on for more than a decade. In light of this I figured it was time now that I write about my thoughts on this matter.
As you all know I'm a huge fan of the Loud House now, and this revelation does sadden me a little inside. Chris Savino created a cartoon that broke down barriers by its diverse cast of characters and families, such as including LGBT characters and characters with Down syndrome. However my thoughts and love for the show will not change after this disturbing revelation.
Chris has gone on to post an apology letter about his past actions, stating that he is deeply sorry and ashamed, while also acknowledging that he failed to foster a culture of respect. By the letter it does sound like he is sincere about his apology, realizing the consequences of his actions. But I do have to ask why he even did what he did to begin with. To my understanding he grew up in a large family of five sisters and has a few daughters himself. Not to mention majority of the lead actors in his cartoon are female.
So now what does this mean for the popular kids cartoon? What will happen to it? Well the executives of Nick have already established that the show will remain on air and Season 3 is still in production as planned, there just going to be continuing without Savino. It is not at all cancelled in any way. The Loud House is Nick's highest rated show that rivals SpongeBob. There's honestly no way or reason for them to suddenly cancel. Bare in mind that Savino served as storyboard artist, writer, supervisor, and director for many of the show's episodes, so some quality may feel off putting when future episodes are released.
That however will not change my overall thoughts of the series. As I said I still love the show, and I'll keep watching its new episodes when they come out. I'll even post a review highlighting Season 2's best moments in the future.
I will conclude this post by discussing an important topic going on. Since the reveal of Harvey Weinstein's allegations of sexual harassment and inapproprate behavior, there seems to be a great wave of women in Hollywood finally coming out by stating their colleagues have mistreated them in some lude manner or comment. I'm happy these women are coming forward, but honestly why did it have to wait so long? The answer: it should never have to be that long.
To all my readers, if someone is harassing you or make you feel uncomfortable in any way, please do yourself a favor and report them. Don't take the harassment any further because you know deep down it won't go away. Talk to someone you can trust and put a stop to it. Or if you see someone you know is being harassing or mistreated in a manner that is inappropriate, put a stop to it. No one has any right to be harassed or abused.
