Harry Situation Reviews: Incredibles 2
Incredibles 2 is the newest Pixar film and the sequel us fans have been waiting for. Taking place shortly after the first film, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl (voiced again by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter) are called in to meet with a business agent who will help reinstate superheroes, and wants Elastigirl to serve as the poster woman of this position. With his wife off saving the world, Mr. Incredible finds that being a stay-at-home dad is a super job.
I loved the first movie, and the sequel has been one of my most anticipated films of this year (if not of all time). And the only thing that I can describe the long awaited sequel is that... it’s INCREDIBLE!
I don’t think it should come to any surprise that the animation looks outstanding, especially coming from a Pixar film. But I think in this film in particular, this is probably one of their best ones. The way the animate the action sequences and the character movements, and how they all flow perfectly together, it’s unbelievable. My favorite part is where Elastigirl is trying to catch up with this runaway monorail on a motorcycle, and the way they animated her ability to stretch her body into different angles and lengths while she’s desperately trying to catch this thing was awesome. I think it’s a safe bet this will win next year’s Best Animated Feature at the Oscars (which is also to be expected from Pixar & Disney).
But the other positive is that the humor is great. This is easily one of the funniest movies of the year. The baby Jack-Jack has the best funny moments in this entire film. I saw this with my mother and we both couldn’t stop laughing. With its humor it almost felt like something out of Marvel.
But the thing I liked most was how they were able to get most of their original cast members to reprise their roles. Craig T. Nelson was great as Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter was great as Elastigirl, Samuel L. Jackson was great once again as Frozone, the kids were great, all the voiceover in this movie was great!
The music was also great too. It’s got that action/jazz that the original had too, which was what I liked from that movie as well. I remember back in band class I used to be able to play the actual theme to The Incredibles. I think it helps when the musical score was done by Michael Giacchino, who had already did the score for the first film.
But most importantly what made this film work was that this was a movie about family. We see the struggles of Mr. Incredible trying to be a good father, we see the struggles of the daughter Violet with her crush, and we see them working together not just as superheroes but as a family too. And its their bond together that makes the film work so well.
I can only think of one gripe towards the film and that’s with its villain, the Screenslaver. Mind you, I actually thought this was a great villain, and I thought this villain’s motivations for committing crime was much better than Syndrome from the first film. However, when it came to discovering who it was behind the mask, I had already predicted it a half hour before the reveal based on a few conversations between some characters. Now I won’t spoil who it is, but I will say that it shouldn’t be too hard for anyone to figure it out.
Like Blade Runner 2048, this film does what every sequel should do: continue off the events of the first film and expand the world around it. But most importantly, make it entertaining. Incredibles 2 was, well, incredible. It was definitely worth the 14 year wait, and I hope to see more of these heroes and families in the future. Maybe in a Marvel/Pixar crossover. Who knows? When you go to see this movie, just remember... NO CAPES!
Positives:
-The Incredibles
-Incredible animation
-Incredible action
-Great humor
-Family dynamic
-Stellar score
-Worth the 14 years

-Predictable villain
