Digging For Worms

A bright day

after weeks of no rain

and you want to go fishing

so I dig

beneath mulch and clay

to the

rich black earth

teaming with netimpeds

chipmunk tunnels

and fat pink worms

that flee at my touch

grasping them at the tail

I pull

them out

spaghetti for fish

wriggling on the hook

to clown, amuse, entice.
