The great river
Colleting the spring melt and rainfall,
From the high Himalayas,
Strong beyond imagining,
The mighty Changjiang.
A sea onto itself,
Bringing life, and unbearable sadness.
I stand over the steel bridge,
In the midst of the expanse,
The mist shall soon lift.
The great movement,
Cleaves the city,
A madness to behold.
From streams so small,
Thrusts in bends and islands.
And collosal freighters,
Cross upstream in endless patience.
And shall I be carried
And later, cast on the embankment?
Might the progress take me?
Seeking the origin of my travail,
Could I ever return,
To those clear-misty streams,
Of untroubled youth?
Could I ever drink from the
Unpolluted brooks,
Those vibrant tributaries?
The river says nothing that satisfies,
Perhaps that is it’s greatest lore.
