Dreamland Isn’t So Far Away
I watched as the pastel hues of the sky leaked through the cotton candy colored clouds that decorated the atmosphere around me. The sun, holding onto it’s last goodbyes as it slowly begins to disappear around the blue mountain top; only to leave me alone with the quietness of the evening and the soft purrs that emitted from my calico cat everytime I scratched behind her ears. The warm breeze ran it’s fingers through my hair sending goosebumps down my spine and around my arms. I smiled brightly at the blissful feeling that seemed to fill me up whole whenever I did such simple things like watching the sunset.
I felt the grass poke at my legs ever so subtly before feeling my cat force herself even closer to the pleasant warmth that naturally radiated off of me before closing her emerald eyes. My hair once in a tight ponytail was now flowing free and hitting my pale shoulders that also held the straps of my black tank top. The moon was still low in the sky waiting for it’s cue to rise up and grace the night with it’s light and unique beauty.
The grasshoppers had started singing. First, at a low hum before raising their volume to sound like a grand orchestra. It was almost as if strings being plucked all around me were whisking me off to sleep with a calming and soothing lullaby. I leaned back slowly making sure I didn’t hit my head on anything before finding a comfortable position on my back, cradling the purring calico cat in my arms. I hadn’t had anyone but my mother sing me to sleep but as tranquility filled my being I couldn’t help but close my eyes and doze off; soft snores leaving my cherry lips.
