What does love feel like?
It feels like
your arms and legs
wrapped around me
as we sleep
when 30 years ago
we slept
on opposite sides of the bed
unused to the presence
of another
It feels like
the warmth
that envelops me
every time you look at me
every time you say I love you
every time you leave the house
with your eyes still on me
at the door
waving
If feels like
side-splitting laughter
at our very silly jokes
the singing out of tune
You are so beautiful to me
the dancing in the kitchen
to music in our heads
voicing simultaneously
the most random thoughts
It feels like
us cleaning the house
you working in the garden
me cooking and baking
us eating and washing dishes
us reminiscing about
when our son was -
when we were -
young
It feels like
the delight that makes
my heart jump
my eyes fill
with tears of joy
and trepidation
because our little boy
now a man
shows that he knows
what love feels like.
