Spoken Word
Challenge Ended
April 28th is National Poetry Reading Day
The object is to record a poem by a favorite poet you have. This could be Maya Angelou, Edgar Allen Poe, E.E. Cummings, Walt Whitman, William Shakespeare, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Robert Frost, Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, and T.S. Eliot to mention a few, or one of your own favorite poets. Use this link to record the poem and underneath it, have the poem in its entirety. https://voicespice.com/
If you have another outlet to record and post here that is fine. Make sure you tag me in the comment box as: @Danceinsilence. The winner will receive The Best Spoken Word Poem Award. And for the first time, I will also have 2 Honorable Mention certificates to hand out (well, email that is). To see how your set up should look like, I will start this off so check out my post. It does not have to look exactly like mine though.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost
https://voicespice.com/Player.aspx?c=p&h=107F36E4&j=2668DA
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Sometimes, when a day is long, my mind plays the last three lines over and over as I trudge through it.

@InLoveWithWords ... I see this as a way to take time out to enjoy the beauty of the quiet. That solitary moment when things just feel good but even then, let's call it temptation to linger, there are other things that must be or has to be done so the journey must continue and then, finally rest from the travels. But that single moment, a calm is felt and appreciated. And who knows? He may have traveled this road many times but in the darkened spaces, he spies a difference he would have never seen were it daylight. People who have critiqued his poem say that the darkness and snow represent death but I don't see that in this piece. I simply see a moment in time to reflect on nature and her quiet splendor ... I'm glad you enjoyed the read and the listen and I really do appreciate you as well as the L & R ... words are impactful, powerful however soft, however loud the voice may be but without them. who are we? Without words, we have no true reason for existence. This is why people like Frost, Angelou, Cummings and the like left a legacy behind so we may learn and understand ... 8=)

Wow, well I definitely could not have explained it that way to anyone, and, compared to my interpretation of the poem, I feel, I did Frost no justice in the beauty of his words. I read what you responded a few times and the beauty I felt in your explanation reminds me currently of where I am at in my life right now. Yet, there is so much more to travel and I truly hope I get rest and light when I reach my destination, because death really isn't an option. You really have a great way of teaching, even when I can be a brat and feel unteachable, I'm always reading and listening. Thanks for being you

@ProseWordLit ... I'm the only me I have and I do the best with what I have but it is good to read your words that death isn't an option. Granted, death will strike us all at some point, but why rush it, right? And how I interpret this may be far different that someone else's ... I just call it the way I feel it ... As to where you want to be, you will arrive and may even surprise yourself in the process. This may sound confusing but we have today, we don't have tomorrow unless we rise to a new day, but today will become yesterday and is a stored memory, that will return. We sometimes talk of the future but the future is always 24 hours away and personally, that's good enough for me and thank ye so for the comment and the read ... 8=)

Nice reading! And thanks for this challenge too. My long term goal is to get into voice acting, and the Voice Spice will be a great way to practice. I'll enter this challenge later when my house is a little quieter :-)
