Think Outside The Box
This is perhaps not a conceited phrase but, like going forward, it’s one that gets my goat.
In my mind, all thoughts are free flowing. Ideas worth having run wild with abandon, forging their own path along the way.
Now, I heard it said that if someone says, ‘Don’t think of an elephant,’ one cannot help but imagine a pachyderm. I don’t know how true that is; you tell me. Is Nelly dancing through your mind right now?
But on the off-chance that it is true – and let’s face it, the human brain is contrary enough that is most likely is – why would one mention a box when encouraging free thinking? Simply using the word brings to mind the image of a container and thus restricts the thought process.
I believe it would be better to replace the prison of a box with words charged with positivity and inspiration:
Imagine creatively.
