Saudade at the Sea
An ocean breeze blows things away to be forgotten
The sand buries trinkets lost to those who loved them
The tides wear the shiniest piece of glass dull
On a good day, the salt fills the air with possibility
But it’s only a moment or two
Before I am nostalgic for things I’ve never done
And will never do
Because money and time aren’t endless
And one day I’ll be less than a memory
A mark in the sand, there one minute
And gone the next
I watch the sunset in the distance
Listen to a crashing wave and think
There are so many people I haven’t met
And more still I will never know
Eventually there will be no trace left
No way to tell I was here at all
But I foolishly hope the wind remembers
And whispers my name to the fishermen at dawn
