Beneath The Starry Cloak (rock/ballad)
Choose sink or swim I always sank
Whenever I could stomach
Into the murky depths of you
Where devils sob and play.
And when I woke, somehow alive,
I tried to sink again;
I danced and laughed and laughed and drank
Just floatin’ on your waves,
Wonderin’ how much more it takes?
What lofty measure saves?
The soul is just a piece of lint;
A paltry little string
The Fates’ll give not a half a glint
To flit and do it in.
But there’s much more to you it seems.
I’d sink from here to hell
Just to feel a moment of that
Cresting wave; that swell...
Fellows stand and laugh at me,
And well they should at that.
Ridiculous to try to see
Beyond a simple chat.
But sit and spill and chill and soak,
There’s more beneath the starry cloak.
And now I’ve known I can’t go back
To paddlin’ in the shallows.
So string me ’long until I hack,
Come show my nerves the gallows.
Choose sink or swim I always sank
Whenever I could stomach
Into the murky depths of you
Where devils sob and play.
