Extinct Species Day
WHO: Hopefully everyone. For myself it would be spent in action, a quite hike in the woods, volunteering for conservation organizations, hooting back at the merely endangered species and putting all hope that they need not be celebrated on this day the next year
WHAT: A day to remember the loss of the hundreds, thousands of species that have been lost to man's greed and carelessness. Each year could highlight a different lost species as well as one on the brink of extinction, with the hope that it gets enough attention to be saved. With this the day would also be focused on preventing further loss.
WHERE: With some momentum, the whole globe.
WHEN: Black Friday for two reasons. 1) It would be used as a donation drive day for conservation and environmental education organizations around the world who are working to prevent more loss. 2) It would highlight the violent overconsumption of resources and land that is driving this crisis.
WHY: The not so slow death of the rest of the life on this planet is dire. And I leave it at that because much more said gets depressing. While this would be a day of mourning and remembrance it would also be a day of hope for change and positive action.
