Daze in Your Gaze
Your eyes have been quite the mystery to me
They say that the eyes are the window to your soul
You accidentally caught my gaze one day
I saw a fleeting glimpse and wanted to peer some more
So when I finally locked eyes with you and achieved that goal
I was befuddled, confused and puzzled
Eyes are akin to doors
And to me yours were deceptively open gates
Albeit surrounded by a thick, misty haze
I couldn't read your stone face
But this expression was far worse
You looked wide eyed and surprised
As if somebody had let loose a gaudy colored horse
Why did you looked so surprised to see me?
I don't know
Alas, I still don't know
Every time I greet you each day
You don a bug eyed expression
Then promptly turn away
Before bashfully turning back
To say hi as you meet my gaze
Yet, although you look shocked every time
You're very sweet and change your pace to match mine
I can't put a finger on why you're like this
I sincerely hope it's not coming from a place of hatred
I like talking to you and would like to do it much more
Plus it makes me very happy when I beat you to the door
Because you've held it for me numerous times
And it's time for me to do the same
I just can't fathom why
You look so surprised
Every time I call your name
Is it because you're quiet and shy?
Or is it something else?
