Pile ou Face
The sound of whistling echoed around the entire hallway. There was a great rush and flood of hurried sounds of quick footsteps. Doors were swung in such a fast manner that it almost made one think they were going to be torn away from the hinges and crash onto the floor.
Mother Superior seemed to move ever so gracefully, with her hands clasped and her eyes wide, alert and staring down at all the children. She stopped at one of the doors. The only one that had not been opened in readiness for inspection.
The other kids had been on time and made their way to line up right by the front side of their doorstep, in the main corridor. Some kids gulped and others felt beads of sweat trickle down at the back of their heads.
Mother Superior snapped her fingers and the door that had been tightly shut opened in one full swinging motion. She raised her voice at the kid still fast asleep in the corner of the room on a featherbed.
The kid’s body rose in the air and landed onto the floor with a loud thud. He squinted his eyes, quite startled and shivered from the sudden cold draft in the air.
At the second time Mother Superior screamed at him, he stood at attention and gave a slight bow. She was not amused at this brief and late display of respect.
She would have to give the kid a reminder of who he was trying to act funny with. The kid ducked his head the moment he spotted Mother Superior aiming something at his head.
His heart skipped a beat once he saw the axe miss his head by only a few inches.
It landed on the wall right behind him.
Mother Superior exclaimed, “Not bad, kid. Now you better not get up late ever again, especially on my watch!”
With that said Mother Superior clapped her hands and the children scattered away in a formation. Making their way toward the staircase, past the library, and into the dining hall for breakfast.
The kid gulped when he had made it to the dining area with his head still in place. He shook his head and thought to himself, ‘I need to find a way to beat Mother Superior at her own game!’.
