Editing
Being told to edit your work seems to be an extremely bitter pill for writers to swallow. Do you go back and edit your work? Why or why not? Does it make a difference of someone else suggests edits? Why does that hurt?

I Need an Editor

It is extremely necessary to be informed that your work needs edits. Not everyone is perfect. Ever get points marked off on an essay in school? This is no different. Not everyone is the next Stephen King, Ray Bradbury or Tom Clancy. We all make mistakes when we write. Most of the time we as writers miss those mistakes. A spelling error, a run-on sentence, a grammatical mistake, these are writing errors we constantly make everything time our fingers press a keyboard.

Honestly it's nice when someone calls our some of my mistakes and suggests going make and editing. It helps improve my skills as a writer. I always go back, reread my work, and correct any mistakes I come across. Once in a while I'll still miss a few errors and it's always nice when someone points them out.

Here's some actual advice I got speaking with a local author: before you consider publishing it's best to hire an editor. Being your own editor is a big mistake.

We're all still novice writers, wishing for our work to make the top ten bestsellers list. But we won't achieve that until we fix our mistakes. So please, if you see an error point it out. It might seem annoying but everyone on Prose is here to help each other out in become better writers.
