Time
At first you didn't care
That you were being pushed towards the cliff.
It was so far away,
It was like you'd never get there.
Future-you could deal with it,
Only you don't live in the future.
You live in the present.
So when that time came,
It would be in the present.
But for now you still have time.
And now you can see the edge.
How are you already so close?
You can't help but notice you seemed to accelerate,
Even though you know that's not true.
You're jealous of all the people at the start—
The people far away from the cliff.
You thought you had more time.
You desperately claw at the invisible force
That's pushing you towards your doom.
But it seems to speed up
Pushing you, faster, faster.
You try to scramble away and you scream.
But alas, it's not enough.
There's nothing you can do to stop the force—
Rolling, moving, never stopping,
Consuming everything in its path—
It's the one thing no one can escape,
So you're left to agonize,
Until, inevitably, you tumble off the edge.
You didn't have enough time.
