For Who We Were
She texts me again
Half drunk and missing yesterday
Another sad song the radio replayed
I am watching the light bleed…
Daylight into the arms of night
I am staring into a super nova,
Of lost emotion locked behind a smile
The devil grins and pours me another
As the clock ticks my sanity away
My sins are many father,
While he places his hands on my shoulder to comfort me
Tears for penance
As the voodoo queen dances with the spirits,
Of all the men who claimed her charms
Romeo is a fable I mutter to the ghost haunting me
Turning to the empty spot,
Where your arms once held me securely
We are trinkets that are bartered and sold
Black market arms race
As we dine on scraps
And feast on nightmares
While time slides into eternity
And we are forever remembered
For who we were and not who we are
