A Poetic Rewriting
Hello prosers! This is going to be the first in a potentially weekly series of challenges! All you have to do is rewrite a novel into a poem! Any novel will do, but the more well-known it is the easier it will be to judge. Please use the name of the novel as the name of your poem. There are no requirements for rhyme or format, but I will be taking into account any particularly impressive implementations of craft. And remember, longer doesn't always mean better. Have fun!

PET SEMATARY

John 11

The Raising of Lazarus

‘‘43Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”’’

~ A reading from John 11:43-44.N.T.

PET SEMATARY

Ancients of days

Hear our pleas

Listen to our cries

Every pang from

The depths

Of our hearts,

Minds, & Souls

The thing watches

Burts out guffawing

Seeing their attempts

At toying with

The other—side

Not satisfied with-

Any demise of

Our loved one(s)

But sometimes

All hell surely

Does break loose

When you toy

Or play around

With…nature..

The natural order

Of life ‘n’ death!

Come one,

Come all

At your

Own expense

To the

Pet Sematary….

Do not

Forget you

Can bring

A friend,

One/Two

Will do

Or even

A fellow

Former partner

Who is now

Back & ready

For action

After the short

Trip to the

Other Side

Even with

Warning signs

Folks never

Seem to listen

Use it at your

Own peril

Be my guest

Go ahead

Make sure

Not to cry

When something

Reaches out to you

Pulling you in a cycle

Of unending use of

The Pet Sematary…

Some places

Things, grounds…..

Need to be left alone

And not used

For our own agendas

To help bring back

That which needs

To be put & left to rest…

The ancestors

Who created

That place

Already knew:

What we bury…

Should be left..

Right in the ground!

Buried, and left to rest…

At least for the time being..
