The Adventures of Naomie 41
The Adventures of Naomie 41
Naomie was on phone duty at Matthews office. Technically it was his day off but since the whole town knew she was there to help out they called. Some of the towns people were getting over the fact that Naomie Williams, a mere woman, was a reliable veterinarian and not a secretary only!
Matthew and Cindy were at his doctors office for a checkup on his back. Mrs Bell, the mother-in-law was tending to the children. She was such a dear lady. She even brought Naomie tea and sweets before she put the children down to nap.
Naomie knew she was in trouble when Mr Garfield asked: "Can you keep a secret."
The look of shock on her face was questionable. Then the phrase: "I love my wife... but" came flowing out of his mouth.
The look of shock, surprise then disgust came upon Naomie's face and thoughts.
He sensed her impending doom and quickly said:
"It's a good secret. Something she has always wanted. I think now that she has a lot of time on her hands I will give her a Camelot Macaw.
It will be here in a few days. She will be so excited when she sees her new pet."
Naomie was relived and a bit ashamed of herself for jumping to conclusions when he continued asking if Dr Bell or she had ever had the occasion to be around Macaw's.
“Mr. Garfield I tend to care for the larger stock animals. That was why I was working in India. When I met Thomas he was working with a rambunctious chestnut Indian Country-bred horse. I helped him calm it down by using the Alexander Method of horse massage.
I have been around some birds and of course domestic birds such as chicken, duck and geese. I never dealt with Macaw. I am up to learning about them.
I do think Matthew might know for sure. He is at the Doctor office with Cindy right now. If you have time I will ask his brother. He will be writing from India soon. He said he'd send me pictures of the horse Tattoo while I am in office today.”
Naomie went to the computer and checked the incoming mail.
“Here it is Mr Garfield. A post to me from Thomas. I'll show you if you come over to the counter.”
With that she first wrote to Thomas asking about the
chance that Matthew had ever worked with a Camelot Macaw.
Returning to the post from Thomas she and Mr Garfield looked at the pictures of Tattoo. Soon a return reply saying: “ Hello to Mr Garfield. My brother does know the bird breed Camelot Macaw. He will be very helpful to you. I should be home in five months.
My brother and I will work together unless the town does not want me anymore. I know that Dr Williams is a wizard with the large animals. Do not tell her I said that or she will chew me to pieces.”
Mr Garfield and Naomie looked at each other and laughed as Matthew walked into the back door with Cindy.
Cindy asked Naomie if she were finished. She wanted to show her something in back of the truck.
“Yes, Matthew is here and has some business with Mr Garfield. I have some time before I finish my day off list.”
“I want to know if I can hide this in your kitchen until Saturday?
It is an authentic vintage brown paper mâché dress mannequin. I bought it today for Matthew's mother. Saturday is her birthday. I do not want her to see it.” asked Cindy.
“Yes, of course. Where is the truck? I did not see nor hear you pull in.” asked Naomie.
“We coasted into the back. I made Matthew do it. He just laughed at me for being so sneaky. I don't want Grand Mama to see her surprise. She is such a wonderful Mother-in-law to me. I do love her so much. She has always wanted one so I bought it for her today.” smiled Cindy.
When Matthew and Mr Garfield came out the back door Matthew made sure he caught a picture of Naomie single handedly toting a naked female mannequin up the back steps to her kitchen. Cindy behind her all the way complaining she wanted to help!
“Matthew I know your brother will have his hands full for the rest of his life when he asks this woman to marry him.” smiled Mr. Garfield.
Matthew said:
“What is the relationship between love and gratitude?
For an answer to this question, we can use water as a model.
A water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and
one oxygen atom, represented by H2O. If love and gratitude ,
like oxygen and hydrogen, were linked together in a ratio of 1 to 2,
gratitude would be twice as large as love.”
