The Adventures of Naomie 44
The Adventures of Naomie 44
Music playing on the radio “ Just a closer walk with thee. Best of Bluegrass Gospel” made Naomie sit on the porch and miss all her family. She had just seen them but was still missing them. Her foot was tapping to the beat of the music.
Soon she heard “What a friend we have in Jesus” coming from behind the bushes near Matthews office. Venturing off to the right away from the sight of the bushes she quietly looked to see who was there singing.
There he was. A little man in a wheelchair with a tattered looking cowboy hat. He was playing a banjo and singing from his heart deep within. His eyes are closed but he wears a mile long smile upon his face.
Calie Cat lets out a huge “Meow” when she spots Naomie.
The little man opened his eyes and nodded his head. He never missed a beat playing “When the roll is called up Yonder” Naomie pretended to play keys on the railing of the porch while tapping her toes and singing in tune with her new friend.
After that song he extends his hand to shake and says: “Howdy I'm Johnny Buck Eturbi.”
“I'm Naomie. I live across the street. I wish I could play the banjo like you do.”
“I don't see why you couldn't. You seem to have good rhythm singing and tapping those toes. Watching you play the porch rail you must know a little about the piano also.”
I started playing piano eleven years ago. Then I went off to college to study Veterinary practice. Next stop India for a while then home until Thomas asked me to please, please help his brother with the big animals until he got back from India.
I have not had a lot of time to play even the piano. I do have one here in the house. I wanted some fresh air this morning so that's why I was on the porch tapping my toes.
“I'm waiting for my son and Matthew to return from the next ranch over. “Snowflake disease has taken over my body. The trip all over the ranch would not take my wheelchair. I still ride horses but my horse was not there to ride. I have trained him well.
I chose to stay here and help Cindy entertain the four youngsters. Doc Matthew said he was NOT going to allow anyone to bother you on your day off. He's taking all the calls out at the ranch.”
“Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease caused by an error in the transmission of nerve impulses to your muscles. You certainly seem to be doing well.” said Naomie.
“Yes, it is all in the attitude of the victim. When there is an obstacle in the way you give up or you find another way around the ant hill.” said Johnny Buck with his mile wide smile.
He bent down to the small backpack near his chair and pulled out a pair of wood drum sticks handing them to Naomie.
He tuned up his banjo and they both started singing:
Next time your found
With your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned
So look around
Just what makes that little old ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
Move a rubber tree plant
But he's got high hopes
He's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie
In the sky hopes
So any time your gettin' low
'Stead of lettin' go
Just remember that ant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
When troubles call
And your back's to the wall
There a lot to be learned
That wall could fall
Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin' that dam
'Cause he had high hopes
He had high hopes
He had high apple pie
In the sky hopes
So any time your feelin' bad
'Stead of feelin' sad
Just remember that ram
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam
All problems just a toy balloon
They'll be bursted soon
They're just bound to go pop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop, kerplop
She had a vivid imagination and would carry it on for the rest of her life
