Two lonely souls

across the hall

from one another.

He silently sipped

his coffee isolated

while she went out

and sat solitary

with her cup of tea.

He went to the movies

she slipped out an hour later

they sat apart

never to meet

She went to the beach

mused isolated on the sands

yearning for soul mate.

He walked by the waves

oblivious to her.

He saw her once

at a distance

felt interest kindle

but no matter how fast

he walked

couldn’t catch her shadow.

She felt estranged

from her possibilities.

He felt disconsolate.

Two bodies

passing in the night

never to entwine.
