Describe a desert. Describe the desolation, the heat, the tricks of mirages...use as much detail as you can. Make your reader sweat just by thinking about it, make them dehydrated and lost. It's one of the most boring landscapes out there...so show us why it's such a prominent setting for so many stories.

is slight
by which I mean
its only question is
of extremes
Man is out there,
or not,
depending on
how far gone,
to the edge
of civilization,
one might yet hold on
to some buoy
of hopeful
reflection
that neither
is lost.
