Burning Leaves

The peasant man hunched down in shadow,

reaches out to burn the weeds.

He lights the leaves and dried-up branches.

In return, the fire breathes.

A light-stroked mastery of canvas,

shines its life in columned bloom,

Though in that light, the shadows dance,

A cabaret of art and gloom.
