An epic unfolded
Here be a pebble,
Hard-seasoned rebel,
Bit o’ a rock once stood.
Far has it tumbled,
Crushed, hit & humbled,
Worn-out by waves, wind & wood.
How has it travelled,
From boulder to gravel,
Changing its look ’long the way?
Smooth-faced, yet craggy,
Rugged & jaggy,
Streaked with black-green & blue-gray?
An epic unfolded,
Breach-born & moulded,
Living ’tween sea-salt & sand.
My poor dear, sweet pebble,
Hard-weathered petal,
Lost in the sea of my hand.
